Hi hows it going! i've been looking at this problem for some time as a few of us are riding to oz via mongolia, china next year.
There seems to be a lot of people saying i've heard this and that and there not letting anybody through, i think what you need to look at is who has actualy tried to do it and physicaly been there, because if they havent they don't realy know what there talking about, they just heard stuff. As far as i can see only a small handfull of people have been refused many years ago but recently i've heard from poeple that have crossed the boarder this year, no one this year has been refused as far as i know, but i havent personaly been there so take that as you will.
I have written a letter to the chinese embassy in london this week to find out what the score realy is and i'll keep you posted. Other wise do what everyone else seems to do, chuck the bike in the back of a truck and meet it at the first town over the boarder, the siberian express runs through the mongolian/china boarder so you could even jump on that.
hope that helps you out anyway
cheers

Hello all, I was in China in August on a bicycle, I was stopped at the border from Mongolia at Erenhot, they told me I could enter but not my bike ? I think a motorcycle would prove less problamatic as you would have a carnet, this seemed to be the problem for me (no registration number) bicycles in China often have a registration tag on the top tube.A carnet will cover all the question they asked me & I'm pretty sure it would get you through, but I would recommened as many inquieries you can make. John

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
