early planners trip 2013 ?june,july,aug
Hello fellow travellers ,Me Ivan from belgium and friend
From the czech republique are planning an overland trip
To Japan and ...? The basic plán but open for adaption and
Sugestions ,is we would start in Europe Linking up in Belgium or
Czechrepublic ,then over Slovakia ,ukraine,russia,mongolia to vladivostok
En then a boat to Japan or we can také the longwayround route to magadan en to alaska ,canada .As you can see not all is set yet but the basic idea is lots of midle of nowwhere
We are 30 and 29 and good fun travellers ,we are driving both
Xt600 from yamaha a 99 and 87 model and good to know is my friend is a mechanic
So where save for the,mechanical troubles ,but where looking for some more people
Who want to join preferably also on xt600 bikes but not a must,

Hello Ivan. would be very interested in travelling to Mongolia around that time. but would be planning to head south from there to Singapore. would probably be an old fella to you at 43, will be riding an 87 xl 600 lmf and also a mechanic.

2013 Asia
HI, I have been planning U.K. to Thailand for some time. I have the bike ready and have previously travelled U.K. to Vladivostock via Poland and Ukraine. I would be looking to travel with someone through Mongolia and China. My timing requires transiting China in July 2013 ( I believe that Mongolia to Loas is a 30 day journey). I Plan to be at the Mongolia Russia border in mid June and the Mongolia China border at the beginning of July Is that of interest?.

uk to thailand
HI, Jimmy would be very interested in meeting up to share costs of china crossing. My plan is to cir-come navigate the continent travelling through the Stans up to Mongolia then down to Thailand, across to India back to Europe taking about 3 months each way.

Transit Mongolia and China
HI Richard, I would be happy to share costs for China, I am in the early stages of planning and will either ride from UK to Thailand, route Ukraine, Russia, Mongolia, China, Laos. Arrival in Laos/Thailand has to be late July early August. The alternative is to fly bike out to Thailand and ride home, This would be a September transit of China, into Mongolia October and then home to UK.

HI jimmy, I was looking at a similer route, have you done any map work yet, I was thinking of traveling through parts of kazakstan. I am also in the early stages of planning and have notting set in stone yet other than I'm going to go.

Hello all, my name is Joko. I am from Malaysia. I fall into the category of mechanically unskilled rider. I have been touring/riding http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...es/mchappy.gif DP in most part of South East Asia for past decade.

I cant open an engine but I can cook a mean meal on the move!
BTW, Can I buy a 2nd hand XT600 from UK and ride back to Asia (maybe even via China...and I speak a wee bit of mandarin) with you guys?

Uk to Thailand -transit China 2013
I can see no problem with buying a bike in the U.K. and riding it back to Thailand. Only problem will be leaving it somewhere and or permanently importing into South East Asia.
I would be interested in meeting somewhere along the way ...maybe at the Mongolian border, and transiting China as a group in order to share costs.

I am flexible on route but timing is important.

Route planning and timing
Hi Richard, what bike are you going to use, what sort of time scale do you have in mind?. I have an xt600e it has been fully prepd and sat in my garage for three years. I imagine transiting China will take about 28 days, from the Lao China border to Thailand is 2 days ( my destination in Thailand is Chiang Mai). My family would fly to Thailand at the start of the U.K. school holidays ( mid July) and I would hope to meet them in early August. I would leave U.K. ( Birmingham) and travel Via Poland, Ukraine and Russia to Mongolian border. I would like to take two to three weeks in Mongolia. and I would rush through western Europe aiming to take no more than two weeks to arrive at the Rusiia Mongolia border( total time 10 weeks ishh)Where about in U.K. are you?. Does this fit in with what you have planned?.

hi Jimmy. My bike is a 1987 xl 600 lmf on a cr 250 suspension. I live in Ireland. the time scale is reasonable. what is your plan for the 2 to 3 weeks in Mongolia . I would be planning to wild camp 80 to 85% of the time and a hotel once a week to relax and clean-up. the 2 weeks to Russia Mongolia border is a bit optimistic at about 500 Miles a day. I'm happy to put in 10 hours a day driving but you have to eat and maintain the bikes. a bit of research to be carried out crossing into china is expensive around 8 to 10 grand to be escorted for 30 days. Im struggling to find an escort who rides a bike or will pillion. never mind wild camping. will have to start a discussion on hear to get some feedback on china.

Transit China etc
Hi Richard, I have done a lot of work on this and have a few tour companies who are at the less expensive end. I was in the final stages of a trip through China two years ago, a family drove from U.K. to Australia and I was to be part of the group transiting China. Unfortunately they re arranged the dates and I could not make it. I did however obtain a lot of info re China guides prices etc. I have driven from U.K. to Vladivostok about 9 years ago, much of the journey up until the Mongolian border would be almost the same. If you pm me your e mail address I will forward all the info I have, mileages, guides etc. I am happy to camp in Mongolia, I believe however that China has to be much more nailed down and the cost includes designated overnight accommodation.

So here you are, maybe change the title!!
I agree its a bit early for planning the trip, like you i was a part of a failed attempt to cross China this year, all went wrong in the last week.
I see you are trying to get across China in July and enter Laos August, i hope you realise its the rainney season then and does not usually finish until Mid september!!
My plan was to go via turkey then around the Caspian sea and into the Stanz for the good riding.

China timing
Hi, my timing is sort of forced on me, I plan on my wife an daughter flying out at the start of U.K. school holidays and holidaying with them in Thailand. As for rains, they start in south China in May/June and travel north, China being a 30 day transit we will be travelling through the rains. I have travelled in Laos and the road from the Chinese border is now good tarmac . I plan crossing into Thailand at Hue Xai. The jungle road from Luan Nam Tha to Hue Xai has been improved (it used to be 8 hours and almost 100 river crossings). last time I did it it was 4 river crossings and 6 hours and it has been upgraded since (for latest info check golden triangle site, David Unkervitch)

All those interested pleaded pm or post.
