This is exactly the trip I fancy doing, but a little later in the year as I know Europe can throw up some surprises with its weather! Not as many as Ireland and the UK :innocent: if the rain is too bad - accommodation will be a hotel.

I've travelled through Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, France and back up on the ferry from Spain. It's an awesome trip!

However, this year I'm planning to do something similar, but looking for a buddy to do it with

How long are you planning to be away for?

Kay

I got about 4 - 5 months off, not sure if this will all be spent travelling - but there's a good chance it will. The only fixed date on the trip is Mid July to early August visiting friends and family in Germany.

Be good to have some company for a while :thumbup1:

Hi Emily
I'll be in Milan and Genoa at the back-end of May, then I'm off to Corsica , Sardinia and Elba before rejoining the mainland and heading for Sicily.
Give me a shout if you are in the area.

Emily 15 Mar 2011 09:59

Sounds really good. Stay in touch. Only four and a half weeks to go. Very excited! :D

Jeny 15 Mar 2011 11:09

Europe is really a good place to visit and i hope you will have a wonderful journey through out and yes after you have been i would like to know about the best places you visited, according to you and about the accommodation.

Dublin to Dubrovnik

Hi Emily,

I'm leaving Ireland for France on April 16th but I can't see a ferry from Rosslare on that day. Maybe I'm missing something - but I was planning to sail Cork-Roscoff. It would be nice to meet up - even just on the ferry and I'd change to Rosslare if there was actually a sailing from there.
I intend staying with friends in Brittany for a couple of days before heading south to a music festival in Saint Jean du Gard. I just have two weeks, so i'll either go across to Santander via the Pyrenees or back up through France.

Anyway maybe you'd let me know about the ferry - and if we don't meet up, I hope you have a fabulous trip. Be sure to go through the Picos on your way to Galicia.

Brian

Hi Brian,

just double checked my booking and it's the 16th April indeed. I'm going with Celtic Link Ferries from Rosslare to Cherbourg. Irish Ferries also do a sailing, but a bit later that day - and of course more expensive

There are no sailings from Rosslare to Roscoff until May though. So, if you wanna go from Rosslare you'd go to Cherbourg - nor sure how handy that is for you?

Let me know if you're changing your boat.

Gosh Emily - never thought of Celtic Link. I've never used them. I don't usually book ferries at this time of year - I just turn up - so changing is no problem - except if it's a smaller ship with a lot of trucks it might be necessary to book. Have you experience of Celtic?

Anyway you're heading down the Masiff Central, and through the Gorges, and I'll be in that area for a few days myself so maybe I'll PM you nearer Apr 16 and give you my mob no. - so if we don't meet on the ferry we could cross paths on the road.

The best
Brian

@ BrODonn:
Never used celtic link before - but the price convinced me :clap:Booked it well in advance to get a cabin, they tend to be booked up quickly and didnt fancy the recliner chair :( so, if not on the boat, see you on the road :scooter:

@ andrewheire:
I believe Croatia is lovely at any time of year. Planning to go through France to Spain first to get to Andalucia before it gets too hot. I know I cant avoid the heat all the time, but thought going there early is a good idea. :cool4:When and for how long are you going?

@ limi:
that sounds like a great trip, albeit very busy in two weeks. was planning to go to the MotoGP races in Barcelona, Mugello and Sachsenring (that's a definite) - pending on trip progress. Did you prebook your tickets or you just paying at arrival? FIM Rally sounds good too - never been to one. I'm sure we'll meet up at some stage bier

@ all:
anyone from Ireland wanna meet up beforehand - might be a good chance to see wherre everyone is planning to go and give us more ideas of places of interest and road suggestions:mchappy:

Hi Emily,
Good idea to meet up alright. As Limi is in Kilkenny, somewhere like Baltinglass - or maybe Rathvilly would be good. Time is getting short enough though - what about next Sunday?

Hi Emily,
getting very close to your departure date, i'm flexible about dates and length of stay. Have a pad in Croatia so may leave the bike down there, Greece is next door. :Beach: Croatia too hot July and August, perfect April May and Sept Oct. I will be going la harvre through france and down the east coast of Italy and then a ferry across to dubrovnik.:scooter::cool4:
