Trans America- North to South-2013

I am due to arrive on the East coast of USA/Canada early May, travel to Vancouver for a couple of weeks (partner will meet me there at her sisters for 14 days), up to Alaska then crossing into Mexico late August on my way to Argentina. As long as I am home by Christmas (or I will be single & homeless) my route and times are fairly flexible but is there anyone who wants to join me on part or most of this trip ? I will be riding a Tiger 800xc, am easygoing and wish to have quite a few (read plenty) of s with fellow travellers along this journey. Anyone interested ? Any suggestions etc ? Please let me know.

Dave

I'll be headed that way late August too. I'll be going to the HU Meeting in Nakusp B.C. August 22-25 that would be worth attending if you can make your schedule work. From there I should be hitting Baja around Sept 1. Always glad to have a riding partner.

If you pass by the Edmonton area and need a couch to crash on, we can help you out.

Hi. I will be going through Edmonton and your offer is very kind. I have considered the HU meeting and will see if I can work my trip to get there. As I stated earlier I am flexible so will try to do it. It only appears to be (by my guesstimate) some 100 miles east of Vernon where Jaynes sister lives. Lets keep in touch as the ride to Baja should be great. Have you been that way before ??

My only experience with Mexico was 10 years ago when a cruise we were on stopped at Cozumel. I'm really looking forward to Baja.
Give me a heads up before you pass through Alberta

Will do. Is there a way of contacting you closer to the time ? Any suggestions on the roads I should take in your region and how close are you to the TCAT ?

Check your PM for my contact info.

As far as I can gather the TCAT is not a continuous route through Alberta but rather a roughly 1000km section that runs along the foothills of the Rockies. We call it the FTR (Forestry Trunk Road) and it is wonderful but it takes a few hours to get there. It has many branches and options and you can ride a fair chunk of it on your way to Alaska. Some friends of mine rode from Alaska to Edmonton a few years ago and tried to stay off pavement in Alberta. Their gps track can be found HERE

Also, a back road way to access the trunk road HERE . Their RIDE REPORT over on ADV.

As far as crossing the prairies...infinite possibilities. Range roads and township roads crisscross everywhere. I haven't ridden much east of Edmonton, maybe try the guys over at Alberta Dual Sport for some ideas.

One great way would be to enter Alberta from the South through Glacier Park. Stop in Waterton Park (I love it there). Then ride gravel all the way to highway 1. Ride through Banff and Jasper (pavement) then to Edmonton.

Great!!, I live in the city of Tijuana, Baja California, its just accross the border from San Diego, California; will be gladd to assist if needed. I'm sure you plan to take the Sea of Cortez route to La Paz or to Cabo. Will be glad to show you the road...

Yup Ensenada, Mike's, San Felipe, Coco's. Seems that's the preferred route. Not too hard core off road, the DR will be fully laden with stuff I probably won't need.
any local Intelligence is much appreciated

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
