Cuba anybody?

I am currently doing an overland trip in Africa with my son but have learned that the Stahlratte is doing a vogage from Mexico (Cancun area) to Cuba (Cienfuegos) end of April, with 3 weeks on the island. Everything I have heard about the Stahlratte and crew is very positive.
I am thinking about riding down from eastern Canada mid-April depending on weather, or possibly trucking the bike down to southern states and riding from there?

Anybody interested? This is the all around best logistical solution to getting to Cuba and back that I have found, for my purposes anyway. Prices are reasonable given that price if for you, your bike, and your accommodation and meals and some of the customs clearance stuff in Mexico and Cuba.

Give me a shout if anybody wants to ride along part of the way. Cuba itself is amazing.

Cheers,
Larry

I love Cuba

How much does the package cost for 1 on the Stahlratte? I been to Cuba many times. I love its friendly people, the weather and beaches are perfect. I have rented scooters for few days($27us per day) at a time while I was there. I stopped doing it recently because if you ever get involved in an accident, you have to stay on the island for months until legal proceeding ends. You might want to look into that, good luck.

I have been to cuba perhaps 30 times and have ridden those dumb little scooters too, and have done a few bicycling trips solo as well.
I have had my share of exposure to the local cops and though they are a bit scamming at time I found them to be rather easy to get along with. You would have to really f up to be stopped from leaving the Island. I heard that that particular individual you mention did other things like have prostitutes in the car with him and letting an unlicensed local drive it.
For purposes of motorcycling on Cuba I am sure there would be some kind of compulsory insurance provided by the state and from there on do not speed overmuch or drive recklessly and you will have no problems.

Motorcycling on cuba is one of the things I have always wanted to be as the island is perfect for that, with the mountains and beaches and of course the friendly people. And the roads are fine for motorcycles of the dual purpose kind.

There would not be a lot of parts on the island so should bring a few spares like bulbs and tubes, etc. but other than that there are a lot of very clever mechanics around who are good at problem solving in general.

So in a nutshell, do not consider at all the tale or two of woe you might have heard, consider the context and the perpetrator or so called victim, and you will be fine. Cuba definitely rocks.

Cheers

oops forgot your other question...

the price I was quoted was $1900 US for me and the bike to and from with accommodation and meals on the boat as well during the passage. In Cuba you are on your own but that is not a scary thing but a joyous thing. I am still riding in Africa but Cuba is calling out to me.

That´s the same calling I am hearing my man!
I have decided to book a spot on the trip to the Island, departing from Mexico on April the 30th.
But instead of coming back to Mexico, I would like to go with the wind and arrive to Colombia, and from there move as slow as possible to Ushuaia.

Hi Nitro, I just go back from Africa and can't go to Cuba so soon unfortunately...hopefully next sailing they do from Mexico.
So how much you paying in total? And how long on the Island? Where you starting from?

cheers
Larry
