circumnavigate Eurasia

I am planing to circumnavigate Eurasia in 2014 on my 87 xl600. if I depart in early march I would keep south towards India to reach Thailand in late May. cross china in June to be in Mongolia in early July and be back in Europe in September. if I travel the other way around i will depart in late June to be in Mongolia in late July entering china in early August arriving in Thailand in September. traveling to India and back to Europe for November. suspected costs would be. fuel 6000 euro. passage De carnet 5500 euro. visea's + china entry 14000 euro. living expenses 5000 euro. so overall costs close to 40000 euro. I have no intention of expanding my plans much further than this. other than the visea's and carnet. happy to do this trip alone but it would be nice to have a companion for safety. this journey will have a lot of 10 to 15 hours in the saddle to give time to see the sights. the majority of the trip will be camping and once a week or fortnight in a hotel to cleanup. any opinion's or suggestions welcome.

how to you plan to get across China?

good question. its quite a complicated operation first you need permission from Chinese gov. a guide and his requirements this has to be a citizen acceptable to the gov it dose not have to be one of the travel agents we all hear about.your route must be cleared by the gov. then there's the paper work and red tape which is quite complicated but doable. then there's the cost which I estimate 14000 grand.

It seems that most folks avoid it all together for the reasons that you listed - the cost in particular knocks it right off the list for me. Sounds like a fantastic adventure - good luck in your planning!
