We are currently en route from Nouadhibou to Choum. Looking for company to travel on th small desert piste to Nema, and then on to Timbouctou in Mali.

Ah they seek them here, they seek them there, they seek them everywhere, that elusive Scarlet pimpernel! Great stuff, so far already. Wish we where there. How is it going? Tried to get in touch with the 10.5 tonner but no response assume they are on their way. How is the road?

Not many other travellers here at this time of the year, so it looks like we may end up doing this bit of desert piste on our own (or not at all). We have a book that describes the route (sur la route des caravanes), with a map and about 80 waypoints of the track from Atar via Tidjikja and Oualata to Nema. It all looks quite detailed and professional.

We are well equipped and reasonably experienced, but still would prefer a two-or-more vehicle convoy. Anyone done this route and care to comment on how safe it would be to do it on our own?
