Definitely interested. Not so definite on being available in the September 2012 timeframe. But if I am, this could work as I'm heading towards Central Asia into Himalayas for the next ride. Thanks wuming!

Hello Eric; good to see you on the HUBB.
Update for all those interested: there are now 6 of us keen to do this trip. However, to bring the costs right down, a 4/4 driver would be very welcome to join us. I have posted on a couple of overland 4/4 websites. Any 4/4ers out there fancy it?
Cheers
Neil

It's not Tibet but could be worth asking...

Yep, saw that Turbocharger. Unfortunately it is in the wrong direction and wrong place for me. Tibet is a must, and I need to exit into Laos. Still in (delicate) negotiation with umpteen Chinese tour companies.

We're planning to leave Germany in July and end up in Kyrgyzstan around September of 2012. The plan is to ride across Mongolia and on to Vladivistok before coming back via SE Asia but the Tibet idea sounds really cool. Please put two bikes down as interested and we'll see how this all plays out.

For reference, I´ve recently been in contact with
www.chinaoverlandinfo.com

(...oh yeah, anyone have any experience with them BTW??)

to cross China on the way to Laos with a group of total 5
bikers in August 2013.

The whole thing has been estimated by them to cost
110.000RMB, if coming from Kazakhstan, and spending
4 weeks inside China. And 100.000RMB, if coming from
Mongolia (crossing at Erenhot – I didn´t know, that this
was even possible, but that´s what they claim!) and spending 3 weeks in China. Exit from China is Mohan to Laos. According to the estimate, it should include all costs, except the group´s food, accommodation and fuel. So it should include the costs of the guide´s car, too.

I don´t have any experience with this company good or bad... but I am a bit worried, if there will be some "hidden costs" that come on top of this, when you´re in China, and can´t back off any more (....well, I guess there´s only one way to find out!)

But if there aren´t, then in that case, the more expensive option would be about 3500USD per head (or 2700 euro). A lot of money, sure, but perhaps a bit less than I thought it would be. That kind of money still gets you a long way in many other places around Asia! But I can´t deny, that to ride from Helsinki to Singapore would be cool!

Interested as well. We will be leaving in March '12 along the Iran - Pakistan route (if situation in these countries permits, else via the Stans). September will be a bit late though. If there is a group that aims for any earlier let us know.
