Chile and Argentina in progress

I'm currently alone on a KLR, zig--zagging south through Chile, to San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. From there, looping back north toward Mendoza with a desired arrival date of December 8.

On Ruta 7 heading to Chile day after tomorrow
 

Hi Mike,

I'm in uspallata on ruta 7 from Mendoza heading into chile towards the lake district, weather permitting heading over the pass day after tomorrow. I'm riding a smaller bike on a Yamaha XT225 if you fancy meeting up or taking a slower ride one day or just spending a day on a trip, on your way down or up let me know.

Hey,

I've been riding from Uruguay which started a bit wet as soon as I passed Rosario the weathers been great, I've just started on the mountain section, so far it's been a highlight of just awe inspiring scenery & the weathers been fab apart from one windy day (I had a day off)
Last year I rode central Argentina up to San Antonio de los Cobres across to Antofagasta in the mountains on unpaved roads & back to Montevideo & didn't have one drop of rain.

There will be people with more info than me especially depending on the type of roads/unpaved routes you want to do will you some good advice on the south America page, but from me it's been a good time to come :-)

Hi, Jo,

Thanks for saying Hi. I'm currently in Cabrero, east of Conception. I'm following map guidance given to be by Tomas at Ride-Chile.com, just wandering and seeking fun rides. Yesterday was magnificent twisties and beachfront ripio along the Pacific coast. My more street-oriented tires are not made for deep sand, however, and I did get several scares in the day.

I'm going to hang out in this cute little town another night. Then, I am thinking of going over to Laguna del Laja, as the owners of this hospedaje say it is lovely. From there, continue south along Ruta 5 and take in whatever nice sights, aguas thermales, and wine bodegas that I happen to come across.

Hope to see you out in the Chilean wilderness.

Oh, and on the topic of weather, I have been on the road for six weeks, now, in Chile and central Argentina. It has been perfect blue skies every day. Not a drop of rain. I crossed Paso Los Libertadores twice: first time was late in teh afternoon and we got snowed on (but it didn't stick so the road was fine). Second time was just cool and dry. Perfect riding weather all around. Sunscreen mandatory. As Jo said above, definitely some high winds in Argentina.

Mike, I saw your post and was excited at the thought maybe we could meet up but then I realized you are turning around and heading back north right about where I would catch up to you heading south. But if you change your mind and want to continue south a bit further there is some amazing landscape just below where you are looking. And for anyone else reading this post heading south I have posted another link with my plans for Punta Arenas.

In talca heading to the coast

Thanks for the reply, I've been in talca for a couple of days and will be heading out to the coast then joining up later to ruta 5 down to pucon then across the border to San martin de los Andes, check out the seven lakes route, back over the pass to orsono, hopefully then down to Puerto montt & on to the Chiloe with some wiggle detours and stops on the way, but I never stick to plans I may reverse it the other way depending how I feel when I get further down.

Hola Jo,

We are two " older" Canadians flying into Santiago on the 9th.......we will be staying in the Providencia Area.........purchasing 2 motos and heading to Ushiaua, likely be in Santiago Area a couple weeks waiting for the paper work allowing us to ride out of Chile.
