Cape Town to Addis and back - join the team

Two friends are off for an overland trip from Cape Town to Addis via Moz, TZ, Kenya and then back via Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi, Zam, Zim, Botswana, Namibia... The journey should commence around Oct 10th, shortly after a few weeks of initial preparations in Cape Town (we arrive on Sept 23). Mode of transportation – 1999 Toyota Landcruiser. Duration - 10-11 months.

There is one seat available for an intrepid traveler. In order to defray the cost of long-term car hire (mutually convenient agreement was arranged with friends) we ask that each team member contribute a fixed amount -- could be as little as $10/day. All other costs, including diesel, camping fees, food, etc will be split among all the travelers. Taking into account all of these expenses this is still very much affordable for an adventure of this magnitude, especially when compared to the costs associated with buying your own car, or joining a commercial group trip.

TEAM
Like on any long-term trip, the team is a very important factor and in fact, is a key to a successful adventure. We will be spending 24/7 around each other and therefore it is essential that we are as compatible as possible. You should be flexible, open-minded, resourceful and with a healthy appetite for risk and adventure. This journey will truly be a team effort and therefore each member is expected to contribute in some way (in addition to a financial contribution). Preference will be given to someone who has a basic understanding of car mechanics, has experience driving a stick shift (on the right hand side) and intention to travel long term with a flexible itinerary.
Briefly about us: we are 30 and 32 yr old males from US and Ireland. Between us we have experience with long drives (crossing continental US in 7 days) and long trips (spending 13 months backpacking). We have contacts throughout Africa and will be visiting friends and friends of friends. And we are both extremely excited about the adventure.

If all of the above sounds appealing, please write directly to srudyak@gmail.com. Tell us a bit about yourself, your travel plans in Africa and how you’ll contribute to this adventure.

Safe travels,

Sergey
