Think you will find it cold when you hit China that time of year then all the way back to the UK. We are travelling through China in September dont feel it will be to warm then

That's a comparatively short time for a lot of countries! Its certainly doable but you won't have much thinking/stopping/relaxation time. I did Vlad to UK in 5 months (July - Dec) by motor bike and for me that was too rushed at the end. The comments about the temperature by Eric are also valid. I left St Petersburg in late October and the first of the snow was falling then. After that I met plenty of cold weather throughout northern and eastern Europe and had to dive down to Spain in late November to get warm.

Anyway happy planning and good luck.

Hi Eric, Naval,

Yea, it might get a tad chilly, but what can you do? I don't fancy any of the warmer routes for political reasons just now. I'm hoping to be in China early to mid September time. Guess I'll have to 'man up'!

Eric, would like to hear about your plans. PM me details if you like?

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Mark
Just read my previous post it should really say we are heading the opposite way to you.
Leave UK early July Europe, Turkey, Russia, the Stanz then China 5th Sept, where we are riding at 5300m in China it will be cold that time of year.
I dont think 'man up' will get you through deep snow!!
If you need our route can PM you no problem

Eric

We are also considering the same route but in opposite direction (in a 4x4 however), starting in September. However the weather is a bit of a concern indeed.

How difficult is it to get a driving permit for China these days?

2around - opposite direction to who? Me? Or Eric?

Either way someone will be heading your way, happy to share costs if it helps. Don't know about driving permit as I have an inclusive price from a guide company for all paperwork, visas, driving permits etc.. Can put you in touch if it helps?

Eric - yes please. Chances are we migth be passing one another and it would be good to catch up!

Cheers,
Mark.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
