Bolivia -> BA

I am just about to leave Bolivia to head to Paraguay, the falls and then down to BA. I reckon it will take me about a week or so as I am hoping to speed my trip slightly so I can go back to NZ for a couple of weeks before heading back to the UK for work.

So I might see you in BA and it would be nice to have someone to ride down to Usuahia though I wasn't going to go down the Atlantic coast as I am staying with someone here in Tarija in Bolivia who told me a good route to take.

How long are you planning to take to go from BA to TDF?

You can see where I am from the link to my spot from the front page of my website www.alaska2argentina.co.uk

Ciao,
Annette

Hi Annette, well, you appear to have resolved your fear of border crossings being that far south so allow me to offer another bit of advice. Late October/November is the time to do the best bit of whale watching ever at Peninsula Valdes. Hope it's all going well, I'm about half a continent behind you. Ride safe.

Re. BA to Ushuaia

Hi Annette,

I'm pretty relaxed open about how long I take to get down there - seconds to weeks, but I'd prefer not to ride in a blizzard. I only flew into B.A. a couple of weeks ago, and I'm pretty chilled here enjoying the beautiful spring weather. I've taken a look at the weather down there, and I'm kinda waiting a while in the hope it may warm up by a degree or two, but whatever.
What's the good route your friend told you about?

I'll be here for at least another week - I challenge you to a game of pool! By the way, we may have been neighbours, I lived in Kentish Town until a few years ago.

Hi Carlio,

I supect our schedules may be a few weeks apart, but who knows, I'm sure we'll bump into one another on the road.

later,
Anton.

Pool

Looking forward to the game of pool.

I was going to take part of the Carretera Austral down and then part of route 40. Hit the glaciers and the take the boat back up as I want to end up in Santiago to fly to NZ before I have to go back to the UK and look for a job.

I am in Asunción at the moment and heading to the falls.

Cheers,
Annette :D

Pool postponed

Hi Annette,

Dare I say it, I'm afraid pool will have to be postponed!

I'm getting an itchy wrist to get on my bike and head off south, so I'm leaving BA tomorrow (thursday). Your route sounds like the one I was planning for my journey northwards, so I expect we'll collide at some point.

I'll keep an eye on your Spot progress to know when to start getting some practice on a table.

cheers,
Anton.

My recommendation (if you schedule allows it), is to go to the HU meeting in Viedma (Argentina) in December. Most of the other bikers will be heading to Ushuaia for xmas/new year at Rio Pipo campsite..

Its the party of the century !!!!!!!

IM VERY JELOUS.. I want to be back there !

Whats this about a bikers party in Ushuaia this Christmas?? It's not the first I've heard about it, but I still don't know anything about it. Think I'll be spending Xmas in Buenos Aires, but I'm curious about this bikers party...

The vast majority of the bikers who go to Ushuaia at xmas/new year head to a large organised camp site called "RIO PIPO" in Ushuaia. It's about 10 mins ride from the centre and a much nicer atmosphere that all the super expensive shops and restaurants in the centre.

I was there xmas 2007, NY 2008 and there was about 30 bikers. I manned the grill there and cooked up a huge asado. You can make arrangements with the owners to use there big parillia (BBQ) for your xmas/ny asado

Someone here will definately have the GPS coordinates for you.

On the way down to ushuaia a common stop is at the city of "RIO GRANDE"... there is a Hostel called "Hospedaje Argentino" which is a great biker friendly place to stay..

Sitting on the fence

I was going to steam south but I am slowly getting later and later so I am thinking about going to Viedma*and then heading down to Ushuaia for this xmas party? But is anyone else going? As it would mean hanging around in Buenos Aires for a while which I don't know if I want to do.

I am in Uruguay at the moment and just going to go and find out about ferry tickets now.
