KKH or Krgz - Laos fall 2012

Hello all,

I know there have been a few threads roaming around but between work craziness & trying to get our house in rentable shape so we can fly the coop, well I figured I'd start my own thread. My husband and I are leaving DC in May (hopefully) and would like to meander our way east. The original plan was Iran which, like many of you have said, is looking less likely. So plan B is Stans & China but we are interested in either doing the KKH to Pak then India but the prospect of traversing more of China & Tibet sounds totally wild. We are 2 up, reasonably fit, and fairly used to roughing it, but i will be honest, 17k ft altitude intimidates me a bit. i suppose we could bring some viagra a la top gear...I wont pretend this will even equate to the funky outskirts of Morocco which is about as out there as we have gotten

So if anyone is putting together a Sept or Oct group & has room please let me know. i did get wuming's info (thank you) & I'd love to get this all worked out soon as i fear we are waaay behind in sorting our paperwork.

Also someone else asked if it was advisable to do the high pass in kyrgz in late october, i am curious if its too cold to go that late? our last ride was too many miles too fast and I am hoping for a better pace this time.

Thanks for any & all replies! this forum is great

Hi Niello,

We are two riding from Spain to Australia in one motorcycle.

Our route will go through the Stans, China, KKH, Pakistan, India, Nepal and then the initial plan was to fly to Bangkok but would consider joining a group to drive to Laos.

For the pass from Kyrgistan to Pakistan we may join Fern´s group even though it is a little late sep 2.

We don´t want to skip north Pakistan, north India and Nepal.

Then for the drive from Katmandu to Laos, we could join any group if not costs are very high.

Anybody knows if the weather is ok to drive from Katmandu to Laos from mid october to november???

Regards

See now i just asked you about this on another thread and the answer was right here staring me in the face. oops. seems like the timing would be very tight & would be a shame to rip right through (assuming you are racing the cold weather) but i suppose another option would be to meander around india & nepal thru March. Or...try the Burma border for fun, you never know...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
