Buenos Aires - now, 23 October

We are part way through a round-the-world trip in a 6x6 Land Rover. We have been let down by our shipping agents and are in Buenos Aires without our vehicle until at least 8th November. Over the next 3 months or so we are planning to travel down to Tierra del Fuego, back up through Chile, into Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, Ecuador (and other countries if the fancy takes us). Would love to hear from any other travellers in the vicinity.

Hi S&M...(sorry..couldn't resist),

I checked out your web site. Looks like you're having a blast. If you need assistance in Brazil and are close to Sao Paulo, I'd highly recommend Luiz Fraga at "The Specialists". His web site and location can be seen at http://www.thespecialist.com.br/localizacao/default.asp

Luiz is a very nice guy, speaks English and knows LR's inside and out. His shop is very, very nice too. The last time we were there, he had two Series I's in the shop. In fact, the only Series vehicles I've seen in Brazil were parked at his shop. They're pretty rare in Brazil.

Ask him to direct you to Fogo de Chao which is one of the best churrascaria's in SP. Simply unbelievable!

Also, at least a few years ago, there is a stadium near one of the university's where a different group of automobile enthusiasts meet each night. Thursday nights was the 4x4 crowd but I haven't been to the event in a two years. I'm sure you'd have a blast there showing off your LR and I know they'd love to see it. If you want, I can confirm if this event still occurs as noted above. My guess is that it still does.

My wife is from SP so if you need anything in that area, let me know and we'll scare up one of her relatives. SP can be intimidating but it's really a great place if you have some local knowledge and guidance.

Cheers,
Gerry

Gerry - thanks very much for the info. We were planning to give SP a wide berth, given the fact that our time is tight and we had heard it was a little overwhelming, but we may well consider it after your message. If it is easy to find out if the 4x4 evening still happens that would be great! Can you recommend any particular beaches in Brazil that are less crowded/touristy? - ta S&M

Javier and Sandra - thanks so much! We are staying in Recoleta. We will call you one evening this week. It would be lovely to chat. - Sandy & Michael
