Buenes Aires to Colombia
 

Greetings all....

I have ridden from Santiago, Chile to Ushuaia to Buenes Aires in five weeks. For sure I need some rest and I am getting some here as well as some other NICE stuff!
My bike is at the Dakar Motos compound. What a place! So nice! I have almost 90% convinced myself to ship the 950 home to Calif, after 6000mi I am beat. I always thought I would make the whole ride back though.

Is anyone besides YukonNeely headed North and up for some buddy system riding.If I could find another rider to ride with I would likely do it. I am tired of the solo journeying despite its great benefits. The Solar needs a bit more drying out but its possible to pass thru it soon. I also wanted to drop in Cuzco to do Machu Piccu.
I would love to do Colombia also and likely fly it from Bogota to Panama where I have a extended visit coming.

Just checking in with the moto brethren around.

So far I got to ride with two great guys on KLR's from Uraguay, a great guy from Brazil on a 950 and have met many other great thinkers that are riding south and north and east and west!

I met the incredible Peter and Carol from BC that are fantastically exploring the world! The list goes on and the pictures are here..

Anyway we just left columbia after flying bikes from panama to bogata. all was well, now in quito, ready to go solo supersonic more or less, got brothers not far behind.CAN YOU LEAVE A BIKE IN BA AND GO HOME FOR 6 MONTHS THEN COME BACK TO ride again.

Try the central route!

If you are in BA, why not try the central route. You have the bike for it. Go thru Rosario, then up to Foz, see the waterfalls, then up to Cuiaba, see the Pantanal, then north-northwest to Porto Velho (be sure to go by Vila Bela to see the "Lost World" plateau), then turn west to Peru and Cuzco. You won't hit dirt until 80 km into Peru.

My son and I came that way this July and it was GREAT! :thumbup1::thumbup1: Around the Block 2007 | Everyone goes up thru Salta/Jujuy and Bolivia, but the brazilians are great and everyone very helpful!:welcome:

I will go from santiago de chile to the north... maybe to california. I will pass by cuzco, chiclayo, quito, bogota... fly to panama... I will start in late march if you are interested.

Ill be heading to Colombia from Bsas and am also keen on company. We were actually talking about this !!

Could be a plan huh ?? I take it slow on the rough stuff and cruise at 70mph MAX on the highways..... Your KTMS are much quicker but who knows !!

Hola, Amigoes and Amigas:

I crossed the Andes from Osorno, Chile and into Argentina, about a week ago, and received an 8 month permit for my bike and a 90 day visa for me.

After staying several more days at this beach resort on the Atlantic coast, I will be riding up to Buenos Aires by Monday or Tuesday. Anyone know of a good hotel with a garage.
I may stay for a couple of weeks before crossing over to Montevideo and then north to Brazil.There I will park my bike for 25 days to spend time with my girlfriend who is coming down to S/A for the first time. I look forward to seeing Rio again where I lived and worked 26 years ago.
Afterwards, I will decide if this trip is over. After this long in the saddle, it is hard to call it quits!!

Buenos Aires was supposed to be my final destination when I left home in St. John`s, Newfoundland. I rode the entire distance (SOLO) to here with the exception of passage from Panama to the Carribean coast of Colombia on a large container ship, chartered to Chiquita. It was indeed very comfortable in the owner`s cabin which was provided free.

I completed this viaje on a 1999 Yamaha v-Star 1100cc cruiser which now has 92,000 kms. ( 57,000 miles) on it. I was told by others that I could not do it on this bike.
The only problem that I had was that I picked up some bad gas in Ecuador and Peru. Near Arequipa, I finally had to pull and clean the carbs along with replacing the gas filter. She now runs like brand new.

If anyone is the area, we can meet and trade stories.

FastFred.... YES, you can easily leave your bike here in BA and return later and ride it and ship it. The help with this is Sandra at Dakar Motos.
Also another guy on here with a long thread about storage in BA can help with this. Dakar Motos is the cheapest but also has some space constraints at times.
