Boat from Cartagena to Panama: 9 dec
 

Hi guy,s and girls,

9 december I,ll jump onboard the boat that brings me from Cartagena (colombia) to Colon (Panama).

There is space for an other bike.

The trip will take about 6 day,s.

How did you arrange plans for the boat trip? who did you talk to? how much will it cost?

Hi Mauricio,

Well.... I arived to Cartagena, went to the marina (club nautico) and asked around.

Also a good place to ask is the hostal "casa viena".

One word of warning though: be carefull with skipper Daniel and his "tri-maran". A nice boat but many bad stories about the skipper.

Once I have finished I,ll put in a full report of the trip.

The cost: 250 USD for me and 250 USD for my wife (the bike). This includes everything you can think of even imigration-fee,s etc...

You can get cheaper, but this was a very nice guy and the trip takes longer then usual (6 day,s normal is 4).

Two sides to every coin.

I sailed with Daniel on his boat Naylamp and had no problems at all. In fact a trip with him seemed much better than some of the other stories circulating at the time I sailed.

Would be interested to know why people were unhappy with him. I found his boat pretty good for sailing with a bike!

First why would you be unhappy about Daniel?
Well...
-Maybe becourse last night his boat struck a log and everybody had to be rescued by the coastguard?
-Maybe becourse he asked me for 450 USD for the bike.
-Maybe becourse last time he came to Cartagene he was so drunk and druged with coke he could not enter the port and the bike of a friend had to come of using a dingy (for 25 USD)
-Maybe his atatude just sucks.
-Maybe becourse Casa Viena now has so many complaints they want to meet with every skipper before they send people there.

Crikey! Reckon those are some pretty good reasons. Interestingly, I paid $350 to get the bike over from Colon back in July.

Hey guys,
I´m in CR heading for Panama and have plans to take Mark´s boat from Colon, Panama to Cartehegna around the 17th-18th. It appears there may be issues regarding the legal side of exiting Panama and entering Columbia?

Can anyone clarify any potential issues I may have in sailing in reverse. Everybody seems to be sailing from Columbia to Panama. Any input is appreciated.

I sailed with Daniel on Naylamp about 6 months ago from Panama to Colombia. He charged me $250 for me and $250 for my motorcycle. Everything went well. Had an amazing time, including a day in the San Blass Islands. I had a little difficulty getting paper work for my moto in Cartegena because tecnically it is illegeal to enter a vehicle in the marina. Daniel reccomended an agent who "took care" of all my paperwork and got me my temporary import permit the following day. I had a positive experience with Daniel and would reccomend him from my experience. I think all the yacht captains are a bit different to say the least and I heard a lot of bad stories from others making the trip with other captains. My advice is spend some time with the captian before you go and make your best judgment.

As far as I know it is NOT iligal to enter Colombia via a private boat. Many people did it before.

If you want I can mail a friend who did it a few weeks ago and ask him to write you the specifics.

I can also give you the email adress of Marcos, the guy I sailed with. He,s a good bloke.

Had a great time, but rough sea,s the first two day,s... Sliding over the floor from left to right (left my bunk since I kept falling out of it http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif )

Then two day,s in san Blas, one quit day to Colon and two more nights in the yacht-club untill I got all the paper-work sorted.

Very relaxed, no presure, no hurry.

I met some of you dusty long distance nutters this morning. I am crap with names (thus I forgot them), but I live in Panama, know my way around, speak Spanish (and some English) and I am up for helping anyone out where I can.
