Belgium - Cape Town_Western route_Start March 2014

Hi all,

Anyone planning to leave Europe somewhere around March 2014 to drive through the African continent following the Western route?

3 years ago on a BA - Ushuaia - Cartagena trip, I met an Argentinian on the road.

It looks like everything is falling more or less in place to meet up again and go off on another adventure. This time Africa.

Leaving in March 2014 would allow passage through DRC in the dry months when we arrive there.

Duration: 4 to 6 months? Flexible on this, but taking it easy, looking around, no plans to set a new guiness book records...

Bikes: KLR 650's or similar size (not too heavy)

Paperwork: in progress - Carnet de passage will be the go

Visas: along the route (probably trying to get DRC and Angola before start)

If you also have similar plans, let me know, bike or 4x4, part of trip or anything...

Hallo - also planning same route about same time

Hi Bart,

I'm also planning the same trip as you. Leaving UK early 2014 and taking as long as necessary to get to Cape Town - and definitely not into record setting. The only potential hiccup in my planning is I'm trying to sell my house before I leave - currently its on the market, just need a buyer, so this may impact my start time.

Bike is also a KLR 650 - which two years ago I spent 6 months riding across Russia to Europe. Whilst a lot of the time I like to travel on my own I quite like to team up for part of the time so would like to stay in contact. Good luck with your planning.

All the best

Martin

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
