Austria to Iran and back in 2009

Hello and :welcome: Everybody!

I think about a trip starting in Vienna, Austria, heading to Iran via Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey. The plan is to continue to Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and then back home via Russia, maybe Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Check Republic!

Up to know I read a lot, especially about Iran, but I don't have an exact plan, route or timing yet. My major problem is, none of my friends is willing to join me and I don't want to do this alone.

The approximate key points of the trip up to know - nearly everything might be changed
- Start around April 2009
- estimated 3 up to 6 Months
- Low to Medium Budget
- With camping equipment
- Bike probably a used BMW F650 GS Dakar (not bought yet)
- Cultural activities should not come too short.

About me:
I am 31 years old, male, just before marriage, and in the end of my PhD studies. Beside going out for a good dinner and sipping cocktails, my major hobbies are traveling and riding the bike. My language skills are limited to German and English.

So if there is anyone out there who is also interested in a trip like this (or part of this) is welcome to contact me! As already mentioned: No fixed planes are made yet, so I am more or less flexible.

Best,

Oliver.

to the black sea

Hi Oliver,

I'm planing to leave munich around mid of march 2009 for south africa.
First part of the journey leads also to turkey. I planed to ride thou austria, hungary, romania, moldova, ukraine, russia, georgia, turkey and than continue to syria but depends on how the situation in georgia will be be then.
However it is pretty much the same way. So if you are intrested in joining that part of the trip would be great.

Greetings
Macs

Different route but interesting suggestion!

Hi Macs!

Sounds interesting! I have to think about this change of the route. But the timing would be OK. If the situation in Georgia will not be good till then (what I personally are afraid of) Azerbaijan would be an alternative. And I also think that there is a ferry crossing the black sea from the Ukraine to Turkey.

Are you traveling alone? Do you plan to go with your BMW F650GS? Is it the single ore twin? Are you satisfied with your bike? I ask these questions, because I plan to buy a BMW F650GS Dakar for my trip!

Oliver.

June is too late for me. But maybe we'll meet somewhere, when I'm on my way back home.

Oliver,

I might be around the area then. Maybe. Hopefully.

While I am here, can I congratulate you on your grammar? This is the first time on the HUBB anyone has got the verb agreement with none correct: "none of my friends is willing". YES.

Apologies to everyone else of course, for being a pedantic arsehole. Please don't hate me; society made me this way.

Hi Simon!

Sorry for not writing for so long. But there was/is a lot to do for work and with thinking of if and how I can manage to do my trip. I've nearly found a friend who is interested in my route - but he also changed his mind.

However I've bought a F650GS Dakar in the meantime and I am thinking of what I have to modify for the trip.

What do you mean by that? Around in Iran, Kazakhstan, or somewhere else? How is your trip planned?

I start my adventure from maj-jun with my XT600 tenere. Serbia-Bulgaria-Turkey-Iran-Pakistan (Karakorum highway) and back. If anybody goes similary route, we can go together. I have low budget, tent, I am HC member and I like realy advanture, not so much hotels five stars.
PS: before maj it`s rainy season in Turkey. Last year I traveled in Syria and 5 days was rain, rain, rain and 3 degrees in turkish mounting!
