Australia to Russia/mongolia to Europe

I'm currently motorcycling in Australia, but planning a 2-3 month trip from Russia/Mongolia to Europe starting around May or June 2014. I'd like to be in Western Europe by August sometime. Just spent two days riding with the "Gobi Gals" who did London to Mongolia on 110cc Chinese scooters last year, and they said it's easily done in 2 months (and they weren't going too fast!).

Alternately, if anyone wants to do Indonesia through Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, etc, I'd be easily convinced to go back to my original plan. I just wasn't comfortable doing India/Pakistan alone as a girl, but will happily do the other countries solo.

Any suggestions/tips?

Travel buddies (guys or gals)? I don't mind doing most of the trip alone, but would like to meet people to do Mongolia, Siberia and/or Kazakhstan because it's so remote.

Other girls want to join me!? Nothing wrong with traveling with fellas, but a girl group would be pretty great, too :mchappy:

I've been looking into flying vs shipping the bike, and will probably just choose the cheaper option (shipping) to either Japan or South Korea, and ferrying across. It seems like buying a bike in Russia isn't a great option if I want to then get it across Europe and into the States?

Thanks in advance!

Hi TravelBugBlues,

I am looking at starting a similar trip in June 2014 but still hung up on the first step on whether to ship to Korea or Japan.

Where are you looking at shipping from?

In the summer of 2014 I will be traveling one direction or the other between Vladivostok and Europe on my 950. While I haven't yet decided on the starting point I'm looking very seriously at flying in to Seoul and thence the ferry to Vladivostok in late May- early June 2014.

My route in Russia is still up in the air also. Magadan, BAM Road and the V'sky tract all are very appealing and I may just have to wait and see what the weather and river run off is like before I decide which.

I do intend however on Mongolia, Pamir Hwy and Kyrgzstan, Kazakhstan to Volgograd. Possibly Turkmenistan and the ferry across the Caspian Sea.

Hey travelbugblues,

Not sure where you are in Oz, I am buying time while waiting to do the crossing through your original plan of India, etc.

I am on the east coast right now and working out my kit. Open for possibilities.

Cheers,

CW~

I'm heading back to the States over Christmas, and may buy a bike there and arrange to get it shipped from Seattle to Korea in May. Otherwise, I'll ship my Sherpa from Sydney to Korea. Actually, I'd really just like to fly to Ulaanbaatar and buy a bike, but it looks like getting the bike out of Mongolia is problematic...

SO, still not sure :D Definitely planning on Russia/Mongolia/Korea west to Europe though.

A couple of friends shipped to xt660z's from ulaanbatar to Vancouver I think it was for 5000 dollars. Just to give you a rough idea of costs of shipping.

(They obviously flew the bikes)

Change of plans

Big change of plans! Just flew to Santiago, Chile. Buying a bike here this week, to ride to Patagonia and then north, so... no Mongolia for me!

Aus to Vlad

How do you move your bike from Oz to Vlad, please?
Russia is on my list, so is Chile again, too.

Looking to do the same thing. Was thinking about starting in Singapore (now in New Zealand). But South Korea or Vladivostok sounds good as well. So i'm following this tread.
