San Cristobal to Guatemala, next few days

Hi folks

If anyone is in or passing thru San Cristobal de las Casas in the next few days I'd love to hook up. I've ridden from Puebla to San Cristobal solo but would like to join others for the ride into Guatemala.

Feel free to email me direct if you like zanebeck@gmail.com

I'm Australian, 39, and riding a KLR 650... nice and easy style.

Hey Zane,

I´m heading in the same direction, around the same time & I´ve yet to break any records.

I´m in Barra del la Cruz south of Puerto Escondido (where they sell Aussie meat pies!) & I´ll be heading south along the coast for the next couple of days.

You may have already passed me by but if not, let me know & we catch up prior to the fun of the border.

Smudger.

Heya Smudger

Sounds good. I'm still in San Cristobal and will linger til it's time to move on i guess. I'm in no hurry and this place is facscinating... and accom and food are cheap.

Shoot me an email when you're close or have arrived. I'm online twice a day.

Palenque Detour

Hi folks

Just to update I have detoured to the see the Mayan ruins of Palenque. I'm told and have read this place is a must see. So Guatemala, you will have to wait.

I will be there a few days knowing my style of travel, so if anyone wants to meet up for a coffee, see a pyramid or 2 and make some plans for Guatemala I'd be happy to.

Brian, how'd the crossing go for you?

No worries if you keep in mind the bike docs office is 15k shy of the border in a town called Viva Mexico.

Touts as ever but all the office/clerical staff especially on the Guat side couldnt have been more helpful.

In Xela now, heading towards Antigua in a few days then south.

Ride safe.

Hi RaginCajun,

Forgot to jump online to see if you guys got my note.

I'm in Ocosingo, an hour or so south of Palenque now. Had to stop and get a pannier bracket welded (150 pesos)... hit a tope too fast (didn't see it) and one of my panniers bounced off and went skidding down the road! Forgot to lock them on.

Are you guys traveling clock wise around the Yuchatan into Belize then? I was gonna head down to San Cristobal, then Comitan to cross into Guatemala.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
