Austin Tx. --> Tdf ***Fall '09

Hey 'yall. I'm putting the feelers out for riding buddies to do Central and South America with.

I originally had planned to do this trip 1 year ago on a KLR650.

Shortly before departure I got hit with Testicular Cancer and had to get one lopped off.

It put me a bit behind schedule but I'm back to it now and want to start planning again.

Just wondering who else is looking at the end of '09 as a time to head south.

The stats:
I'm 28.
Will more than likely decide on the KLR again.
Shooting for tdf new years 2010.
I will ship bike from Panama to Ecuador but may fly myself sans bike to Columbia for a few days.
Or hell I may even ride Columbia if I'm with others who is willing!

But part of getting ready for me is to start talking with other people about it. So fire away!

Texas to Panama

Hi. My name is Joe and I am planning a trip from Brownsville, Texas area to at least Panama. I am going on a Bimmer and looking to go sometime around after Christmas 09 ( I promised my wife I would be home for Christmas) now I live in Alaska but am purchasing a bike a few months before and storing it at a buddies house. So when it is time to go I will fly up there and get things ready a couple of weeks before. I have two friends gearing up to go as well. We are Marine Engineers (the Sailing types) and we have two months off at a time. We would like to store our bikes in Panama and continue onwards two months later.. So if you would like the company up to Panama or however far we can get in that time frame I would be game. If not maybe we will run into each other somewhere along the way. BTW, here are my stats.

Joe
40
Salcha, Alaska
BMW
25 years of riding experience
Fluent in Spanish

the other two guys are from Maine and the other Mass but living in Philippines. and looking at riding the same KLR you are..
all three mechanically employed...

Hi Jose,
Right now we are planning our trip to Central America and beyond on or about December 09. It is still a while away but with good planning we should be ready for anything by then. I am going with two other friends as of right now. I am too purchasing another bike in the area and we will meet up in Port Isabel, Texas where a friend of ours will let us set up. Between work and planning this trip time is going to fly. Good Luck and if you are heading there in that time frame give me shout.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
