China to Pakistan via KKH Sept 2014 and Myanmar end 2014

Hello,
My husband and I are planning to ride from the UK to Malaysia next year. We're planning to leave the UK in Apr 2014 and cross from China to Pakistan thru KKH in Sept 2014. Then cross from India to Myanmar in Nov 2014 and tour Myanmar for 3 weeks before exit Myanmar to Thailand. We found a tour company in Myanmar that can apply permits for us to ride our own motorbikes entering via Tamu/Moreh border but we'll have to hire a guide too for the whole journey. We haven't contacted chinese tour companies to get quotations but we have a couple companies in mind. If you know any reliable company please let me know.
If anyone interested to join us for any part of the journey to share the costs feel free to PM me. Thanks

Michelle

It sounds very interesting that you have been able to find a tour company in Myanmar that can arrange permits for you to ride through the country. I am sure many here on the forum will be interested in knowing a little more about this. What are the name of the company - contact details etc.

By the way - Myanmar is a beautiful country with lot of interesting points. I have had the pleasure to travel there, however not on my own vehicle. But the road conditions are rough to very rough - so be prepared for that.

Hi all,
The company is Myanmar Travels and Tours. It's a government agency. I've not asked for a formal quotation. But they said a guide cost about US30 a day plus other expenses. They can sort out all the paperwork and permit.

Hi Michelle
We are four MC riders from Sweden that is trying to plan a similar itinerary, our first plan was to cross China and visit Everest base camp. But we think it is to expensive. We will do the Pamir Highway and then enter to China via Irkestam pass, hopfull during the first week of september.
We have been talking about Myanmar, but it seems to be difficult to cross from India, but if you have the connection we would be interested to be included.

/regards

Hi,

I am still in early stages of planning but am also looking to get through China to Pakistan from Kyrgyzstan in Sept 2014

What route will you be taking getting from KYR to China?

I have also posted here, perhaps plans could link up to save costs?

Crossing myanmar 2014

Hello! we are planning to cross Myanmar between February and March, we have a safe contact and thanks to him one group is crossing now (we are waiting for the report from our friend in the group) and another will cross early February. The cost with this guy can be around 1000 dollars including food and hotels (sleeping half night in the vehicles) and all the permissions with escort.
Prices are per vehicle for 5/6 days it can decrease depending on the number of participants. Anyone interested?

Hi all

I too am planning a trip that includes crossing to Thailand..

My plan has been for some time to cross into China on the Irkeshtam pass to Kashgar and the KKH, however there are lots of difficulties and given the recent security issues in northern Pakistan I'm actually considering if there are other options available.

Anyway whatever the outcome I am setting of the end of April and heading east via Italy and Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Russian and Kazakhstan.

Let me know if you're interested in sorting out the China crossing options or alternatives

All gone quiet?

I'm now making a decsion to cross iran to pakistan and into India

Its a bit of a compromise, but its still a massive adventure and part of my RTW trip, saving money and time by crossing one country(Iran) rather than five - (Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, China)

Hey everybody, I am still getting the details of my journey sorted as well....starting in May I am aiming to reach northern India (Srinagar) by the beginning of August...I am starting to prefer the route via Iran and then Pakistan directly up to Lahore to cross into India there, since it seems impossible to enter India elsewhere. Any other open border between Pakistan and India is that I could read about so far, is just not crossable for foreign motorbike pilots...I would still like to try to come down through KKH into northern Pakistan, but earlier then the people that started this thread. If there would be a group of people willing to cross KKH untill the middle of July I wouldn't mind joining...either way to India will lead through Lahore it seems.

I am leaving England early April (1 month) and hope to be crossing Iran, Pakistan and either straight to India or North into China. Have any plans been made by this group to meet up and share costs of the guide in China. I'm riding solo on a 650GS Dakar and would be keen to talk to anyone who might be considering the same trip, I imagine I'll be heading East across Pakistan in July 2014. Dan

Hi danskeates,

I will send you a PM with the details now, but we formed a group of people interested in crossing China by September, and the Myanmar.

Let me know if you could be interested in taking part or read about the plans.
