Anyone used Perumoters?
 

I've gotten back from a ride to Panama in Oct/Nov. and now considering flying to Peru to see what I really want most to see in SA. A tour company named Perumoters has an 11 day ride that covers the Cusco, Titicacca, Colca Canyon area and sounds reasonable cost wise. Has anyone done a "tour" ride before? I think I had my "adventure" getting to Panama. It might be nice to take it easy for one ride. http://www.perumotors.com/

It's owned by Alex Luna. He's a great guy who helped me find a new rim for my F650 Dakar last December. They rent bikes and offer limited guided tours. Bikes are new and excellently maintained. I rented a Honda Falcon 400 for a few days--no problems,. Highly recommended. Let me know if you need any other info. I'm now in Mendoza, Argentina headed west.

I went to the link you provided and after looking, couldn't find reference to "Perumoters" tour company. Did you get that info from e-mail? I just couldn't find anything unless I just missed it. Thanks

"We used a tour-organizer for this trip. They rented us the bikes, set up the lodging, and sent along a poor chap to carry inner tubes, and put up with our American bullshit. Our tour guide is a Dutch guy, and didn´t have a map, or carry much in the way of tools, but was a great guy to ride with. He had ridden much of the route, and knew the best places to get a drink, or a bite to eat. Our whole trip (excluding airfare) was around $2000 for bikes, lodging, gas, connections (trains, busses, etc) for 16 days. Not a bad deal. (www.perumotors.com) Where was I?"

i ran into one of their tour groups outside cuzco in November and they seemed well equiped and friendly. I have a peruvian plated 1996 XR600 I´ll need to sell and have ridden from Chile or Argentina to peru in late feb 07 and have friends there who can facilitate the transfer. if you are interested. best of luck!

We used them for our Oct/Nov trip. Good guys, decent bikes, good price.

Experience with PeruMotors_self guided tour
 

Back from a self guided tour (2 weeks with rental bikes from Peru Motors, Arequipa) this evaluation should help people who intend to make similar trips with Peru Motors. We booked two bikes not cheap (100-150 USD each per day) and accommodation in one package.
Accommodation was ok, mostly mid class hotels. Evaluation of the Motorbikes (BMW, new model GS 650F) is difficult: Beginning of the tour: During hand over, one of the bikes could no be started, clutch lever was broken, Lars changed the bike (1st time). End of day one: battery low, electric problems, just managed to reach the hotel. Lars delivered spare parts, repaired the bike by myself. Replacement of bike was not possible due rock slide blocked the main road, 2nd day bike stopped due broken alterator in the desert 100km from Nasca. We managed to reach the hotel in Nasca after 4 hours, broken bike was parked in the desert. Spend half day with organization. 4th day Lars organized a the replacement of the broken bike. 6th day the replaced bike sputtered in high altitude and motor stopps several times, lost confidence. 8th day: another bike was offered. With this 3rd bike I end the tour. Lars had no ideas what are the reason for this special problem. I found in the internet that other guys had still the same problem with this type of BMW (high altitude, long distances, over heating of petrol pump?). We are very frustrated about Peru Motors due low maintenance and low knowledge about their own bikes. Lars offered no compensation: I can not recommend Peru Motors at all. FYI: have done a lot of self guided tours with rental bikes all over the world but never had this bad experience. :nono:

Decided to go with Peru Motors February of last year after weeks of research. The most expensive of all rentals checked out.
I liked that they were based out of Arequipa. Gave me a chance to get altitude acclimated.
Their base hotel is good. Even on the relative expensive side, but with clean, efficient, and helpful staff.
A review and paperwork before the rental. You are given a plastic bag full of tools and tubes. Then you cannot say that you were not prepared. I traveled light on the Honda Falcon with a canvas bag over the rear. Slime only.
Arequipa-Cotahuasi (long day)-Orcopampa-Espinar-Cusco-Ollantaytambo-Puno-Arequipa.
Found the bike to have some minor issues with a loose footpeg and a loose rear axle adjuster cover. Have the bike checked out at your first night stop. Bike mechanics everywhere.
Trip of a lifetime.
