Las Vegas Bikefest sept 07

Not everyones cup of tea I agree but I will be going out there from the uk this year. I am planning on a couple of days in vegas having some party fun then hiring the bike and riding out to Laughlin, grand canyon & death valley over the week. If anyone is out there and wants to meet up for a or a ride out that would be good.
I am travelling alone so would love to meet up for a chat some time with any like minded travellers.

Jane

Jane, I have been to the Bike Fest several times (first one, shortly after 9/11, was kind of depressing) but it has become a GREAT party. Thanks to my 5 months on the Pan Am Highway, I won't make it this year (trying to save my part time job). :=) If you make it to Camarillo, Ca., stop into the Harley Dealer and say "Hi".

coast to coast next

Thanks for the reply Rick I am really looking forwards to it. I have never done a trip on my own before so I thought this was a nice friendly place to start. Hoping to do coast to coast next year. Daytona to LA if i can get the time off work.
Good luck on your 5 month trip and maybe we will catch up some time.

Hi Jane,

Planning on going over to PHX in Sept too, not too sure of the dates yet. Newbie like you to Adv touring and am planning on buying my bike over the pond in AZ to start a year long break!! Maybe more, guess till the penies run out!! Got family in PHX to give me a base and help me out. If dates can plan out then would love to do the ride you have planned.

Have loads of fun & enjoy.

Cheers Mojo.

Rick, my in-laws live in Camarillo, and my two young ones are there right now to visit for a few weeks. I will be there in a few weeks with my wife, so we should stop by.

Mojorising, we had mentioned meeting up somewhere in the vast deserts or forests of Arizona.

Webmistress, you mentioned hitting Grand Canyon. I think you only had a week to ride from Vegas to Laughlin to the Grand Canyon, but to both you and Mojo, I would suggest slightly further east to the Navajo Indian Reservation and Canyon de Chelly. I know a few travelers have mentioned going through that way, and confirming that it is a great place to see. Monument Valley is very worth the ride, too. Mojo, you will have much more time to see the southwest, so there is no rush for you, but webmistress, it would be worth the time. Ask others here on Horizons about the route they took through the area from Vegas.

I would prefer "on the road" but you did read the wife and kids part, LOL

Would you be willing to trade a "Bobby's Territorial Harley Davidson" t-shirt for one of your guys' shirts?

DISCLAIMER:
(before anyone jumps on me, my wife has little to no interest being either on a bike with me let alone riding one herself, so please hold back that I am writing sexist remarks, etc. It would be nice to get away from the kids for a few days however, LOL)

Simon.

Still plan to be in PHX for september sometime, would love to have a ride out to the AZ desserts & forest trails. Will keep in touch 4 sure.

On a different note as my plans involve Central & South America, are there any specific road maps you recomend?

Cheers Mojo.

Not too sure about South or Central, but a good place to start for Mexico (I figure you are planning to ride through, unless you have plans to fly to a specific country further south) is:

Map of Mexico Directory - 4,000+ pages of mexico maps with 2,500+ still, ipix and panoramic mexico pictures including mexico weather!

and the specific Mexican states:

Mexico maps-detailed state maps-each in 16 zoomable sections

If you are planning to ride from Phoenix, this would be the state you most likely would enter Mexico through:

sonora mexico map - map of sonora mexico - mapa de sonora

I am figuring that you are asking advice on the C. and S. American threads, too?

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
