I'm going to be doing the same trip - also solo - but a little bit later, like early July. Would be interested in knowing how it works out for you?
What bike you riding?
Cheers,
Eryl (aka Carreg Cennen)

Prudhoe Bay

Hi,

I am also looking to travel to Prudhoe Bay in early July.
Currently travelling alone on a BMW R1200 GSA.

My bike will arrive in Seattle or Vancouver (haven't decided yet) on approx 28th/29th June from Kuwait, afterwhich i will either ride ( or preferably ) transport the bike by train/lorry/ship to Anchorage or Fairbanks. Which ever is quickest and/or cheapest. ( I previously got a quote of $1500 to airfreight my bike from Seattle to Anchorage, but thats more than i was hoping to pay.) I shall be flying in from London.

I plan an overnight stay in Prudhoe Bay then back south, (perhaps via Anchorage) to California.

Sorry for rambling on.

I note that you are looking for an inexpensive way to travel to Alaska from Seattle or Vancouver, with your bike.
There is a ferry which runs from Bellingham in Washington state ( approx.
mid-way between Vancouver and Seattle) to Alaska -- known as the Alaska Marine Highway. It also stops in Prince Rupert, BC.
Hope this is of help to you.
Enjoy your trip!

Greeves

Hi Francis,

Thank you for you advice re Alaska Marine highway.
I have had a brief look at their website and am now deciding how far up to sail, whether that be Bellingham to Skagway, or further up tho Whittier. Each leg is costing approx $300-400 and that is just for the bike freight. Accomodation is similary expensive, unless i decide to sleep in my bag for the duration.
Still unsure. I am trying to balance out cost against travel time.
Thanks again for your help.

Hello

The ferry from Bellingham was already fully booked 3 months ago! I got lucky because there was a cancellation.

They say it is worth the experience.

I'd like to do this, starting from California leaving middle to late June. When I get back, I'd like to ship my Suzuki DR 650 to New Zealand, then on to Australia.

I just booked it a few days prior to the ferry leaving and that was July I think. We did it on the way back down as rode up through Canada/Alaska. If you're not in a hurry, just ride it and get the ferry back down.

Don't forget you can actually camp or sleep out on the top deck of the ferry rather than taking a cabin.

Hi All.

I arrive in Anchorage with my Honda Africa Twin on June 29. Then going north to Prudhoe bay. Then turn south until I hit Argentina. No real plan or time line (about 6 months) but would be nice to ride with someone from time to time as I also will be riding solo.
So keep me posted.

Hi Armando,

I may have missed you, but I`m in Fairbanks now (16th June) and am heading to Wiseman tomorrow and setting off for Prudhoe on Fri 18th. If you or anyone else is around and want a bit of company? I`m riding solo on a BMW 650 dakar.

Cheers

Hi Brian,

Not sure of my timings at the moment. I`m taking it slow and steady. In Fairbanks at the moment as I`ve just taken a spill on the Dalton, so my bike is in need of some TLC! But, I`ll keep you posted when I have a better idea of my intinerary.

Perfect. Maybe our schedules will line up then, keep me posted. If you ride through early, before I can leave, you are more than welcome to crash out in the guest room if you need a place to stay on your way down. I'm just North of LA.
