UK through France to Italy

Hi Juan
I`m planning to set off from the UK in the next couple of days to travel down through France to the Tuscany region of Italy and then down to the tip of the country and take a ferry over to Greece. I am expecting the journey take 3 to 4 weeks as I`m doing the trip on a Honda XR400 and want to try where ever possible to travel off road. I don’t know if the rough schedule and routing etc ties up with your own plans but if you think our paths may cross it would be great to meet up
Regards
John

hi john!

nice project you have there, do you have an itinerary fixed or you'll see?

I had a similar project with some frinds to do Brussels- Lisboa as much as possible dirt.

I think something like ardennes Belges, ardennes françaises, vosges, jura, alps and the apenins.

If you want I have a track from turin or genova (I have to check) going to rome and passing tuscany. It's the old via francigena, routes used by pelerins many years ago, it's a trail track, some dirt, some bumpy roads and back roads, but no big road and autobeurks

Tomorrow I'll be in Italy and have to take ferry to Tunis on 8 Nov, as my visa for syria ends in early January and need the time to arrive there with a thumper, you understand me...

let me know if you need some info for your travel.

regards
Juan

Tracks info

Hi Juan
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you – but I set off from England in the worse weather (wet and freezing cold) and have had it for the week. So I just got my head down and have concentrated on getting as far south (warmer) as possible. Any information you have on any tracks would be much appreciated – but don’t put yourself to any trouble, just point me in the right direction if you can as I understand that you have enough on at present with your own trip – which sounds like a real adventure (and a lot warmer) – the visa for Syria can`t have been easy. Be careful mate and stay in touch you never know I might be able to catch you on the return leg

Regards

John

Hi, Ares, how did you get your Libya visa? If I can not get it, I will go back Europe from Alexandria by boat. I am right now in Palmyra, Syria. I think in one week entering into Egypt because I 've been riding this region before. Maybe we can meet in Cairo and ride some stones. When do you expect to be there?

Hi istanbul bisiklet motosiklet!

Thanks for the invitation, I think to be there around January, will be nice to drink a couple of efes in Istambul

Hi Miquel!
For lybia visa It was quite difficult, at first they want a loi from a travel agency with a guide and all the bla bla bla, finally i wrote a letter to tripoli explaining the travel, the budget and telling them that they has a so beautifoul country but it will be for the next time as my budget can't afford a guide for 10-15 days travelling alone. All that translated in arabic and 1 month after I get a positive answer and permission to get a 1 month transit visa.

someone on the Hubb said that was doable from tunis embassy, but I don't know if in cairo will do that...

Normally I arrive to Egypt 26 or 29 November, and do the oasis (siwa, bahyra, frafra) to abusimbel and up to cairo through nilo's valley, I expect to be 3-4 weeks in egypt and after leave to Jordan

in cairo i arrive around 20 december

maybe we can meet us somwhere in egypt, when you think youw'll take the ferry to Venice?

ride safe

Juan

I have to be back in Spain by the 20th December, so I will be in Egypt much sooner than you. If I can get the Lybia visa, maybe I will catch you up there, but If I can not, I will take the ferry from Alexandria about the 12th December. Take care and have fun.

Suerte, compay.
