Hi

Weve just got into Bangkok. We are heading into Cambodia for a few days then up to Loas and crossing over to Chang Rai. It would be good to meet up. Could you also please let me know what the roads are like.

Hi simon,

The roads in Cambodia are not good from border crossings!! They are sand with corrugation (wrinkle, bend into wavy ridges!) A round Phnom Penh good roads!!

From Bangkok, I think you would go for & I can not remember the name but it starts with a "P", cross, it closes @ 4 to 5pm & customs close for lunch open @ 14:00!! The road is bad but rideable a few weeks ago!! The bridges are very poor, some have holes in them that could have taken my BMW!! But the last 50 miles are ok to Siem Rap!! You can not ride your bike with out a Cambodia licence in Siem Reap Province, they will not take a international Driving Permit!!

You could try going to the Cambodia Embassy in Bangkok & ask for a licence!!

I found the police will let you ride in the district, but I got stopped on my second day at the temples!! I was told I could only ride back to my GH & not any were in the district!! I got up early & rode to the border with Thailand with out problem!!

A good GH is Mith La or, 263, Taphul Village, Svaydangkum Commune, Siem Reap, it's in the LP, thay have phone No. (855) 012 630 393 & email nfesr@camintel.com

Take the new top floor room with bathroom for $3, the food is good & cheap!!

I can not find the Chang Rai, crossing on my Laos map, but the only crossing from camodia to Laos is Dong Crorlor To Voeun Kham, the road is said to be bad the Cambodia side I have not take this road!!

But you could go by boat, at a high cost!!In laos the main roads are good!!

I sorry I don't have my Camodia maps with & I'm dyslexic which does not help!!

You can ring my on my Thai mob 099302397, I still get a singal here in Vientiane!!

If you come into Laos over the Friendship bridge you can get your visa at the border, $30 for 30 days & insurance for two months 71,000 or you can take one mounth, Kip 266 to the B!!

If you change yor mind & come to Loas first ! will wait for you!!

Cheers Rik, thanks for the advice. We may go straight to Laos based on what you have said. If we do go straight to Laos I will try and give you a bell on your mobile.

Hi Simon,

My Thai mob seems to be lacking a good singal at times!!

Meet the two German rides on KTM's on Sunday!! They said they had meet you, small world!!I Took them to my hotel as they were in need of "Air Con"!! I think they will stay a few days!!

"You can not ride your bike with out a Cambodia licence in Siem Reap Province, they will not take a international Driving Permit!!"

The German rides I wish I could remember their names, rode round the temples with out being stopped, what can say!!

I spent two mounths in Cambodia!! It is worth putting up with the roads!!

You only have a @ 100 miles of sand, before the good bit of road!! Which ever border you come in at, funny that!!

But from the south you have four ferries, $1 US each bike, with as many people as you can carry!! Use the car ferries, The price is the same & there a bit less home made!! Just ride on & refuse to get of the ferrie!!

I usually ride at @ 40 MPH @ 65KPM & two up, Changeling felt a bit better to ride!!

Thanks Rik

We leave Bangkok for Laos in the morning. Our intention is to get to Vientianne and then head North so we will hopefully catch up with you in Laos.

Hopefully see you soon.

Rik Blocksidge 10 May 2004 22:19

Hi simon

I'm still in Vientianne each day I'm head North!! But I'm still here!!

I'l try & meet up with you, at the laos border!

My GH is on the way into vientianne,@ 5Km's from the border! It's on the right hands side of the road, the side you will be on!! It has a odd name I can not remember, but the sigh is green!! Not much help!! But if you pass the cigarette factory, you have just past it!!

A Air con room will cost 323B or 60,000 Kip!! Bring lots of Bart with you!! It has good park 7 is a lot cheaper than in town!!

If I miss you I'll be on Qual Fa Ngoum, not far from the Minmarket, thats the road next to the Mekong River, @ 18:00 or if I miss you at the border I will go strat there!!
