Anyone in Chiapas?

Hi,

Are any of you in Chiapas right now? I just arrived in San Cristobal De Las Casas and Staying at the Azteca Hotel, right beside the shopping mall on the way in from Tuxtla. Downtown was too busy, expensive and mostly booked up anyway. It's Easter weekend after all.

I absolutely love the cool air and lack of humidity. I might stay here for a few days after roasting all the way down the coast for a over a week. The ride up from Tuxtla is simply breathtaking. The road winds and climbs non stop, while going past little indiginous villages where traditional dress is still worn. The temperature goes from blast furnace to open refrigerator by the time you get to San Cristobal. What a nice change!

I'll be heading on into Guatemala and beyond after I leave here.

That should have been Hotel Alcatraz, not Azteca.

hello Michelle

Cal from Calgary here I am presently in San Jose Costa Rica so a bit ahead of you. I will cross into Panama tomorrow and be there about a week and then return north so maybe we can trade stories if we cross paths. Guatemala is one of my favorite countries. The bike is runnig good and I have just passed 11000 kms since I left Canada when I return to Guatemala city I will have some servie work done and also probably visit the dentist, I did the last year and the price s for dental work are a 10th of what it is in Canada.

Cheers Cal

It looks like I'm a bit more of a putterer than you ;-) I should be leaving San Cristobal soon but I'm not sure about crossing a border on Easter Weekend. I suppose I could always head down and try it.

I have no set itinerary and may or may not end up in Panama. But there is something within me that seems to be pulling me that way. I've been to Guatemala before (Peten) and also liked it quite a bit. I find the Maya people to be very respectful and friendly ...once they warm up to you. But Mexicans so far have also been absolutely great.

Let's keep in touch and try to meet up if we can.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
