Africa: UK to Cape Town (East coast)

Hi,

I've got the bike sorted, and now in the process of applying for Visas/Carnet etc for a trip down the east coast of Africa. Guessing these things will take about 4-8wks to get sorted so leaving sometime late Aug/early Sept. Any joiners for all/part of the journey please take contact!

If anybody has recent experience of Egypt without a Carnet please let me know as the 8* cost for UK bikes is extortionate. Are there any other options? Libya is out.... Advice about which visas to get up front and those that can be sorted on the road would be much appreciated.

See you on the road!

PS: Anybody fancy a shake down trip in the mean time (Aug) to Iceland, Pyranees, or Morocco please let me know

Hello Jaybee

I have just seen your post about travelling from the UK (London?) to Cape Town.
I have been considering the same trip, and have been talking with an expedition company that are leaving on the 24th August. I am not going to go with them as I have a lot of concerns about them and on every forum there appears to be someone who has a bad experience. Anyhow.....
In short... I am thinking about heading off independently on an GS800 and would welcome the opportunity to have a chat about it and see if we would make good ride buddies for at least some or even all of the trip...

What do you think?

Cheers

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
