hotel details

Hi there

We are in a hotel called "UYGULAMA OTELi" which is in Palendoken. Ask anybody where Palendoken is and they will tell you. If in doubt buy a bottle of water and it will have the name on it probably!

The map coordinates (or sat nav) are:

N39-53-21-8
E041-16-38-3

The cost of a single room is 30 lira including breakfast. The staff are lovely and extremely helpful. You'll recognise the hotel by the R100RT parked up the ramp by the front doors on the marble entrance!

You can stay cheaper in town between 15-20 lira but from what others have told us we have met you are staying in rougher accommodation. Depends whether you like your creature comforts! It is a little cool here but you can put on a jumper!

We'll be here until at least next thursday.

Catch you soon

Cathy and Bernard

Hi folks.

Sorry but we left Erzurum and went back to Istanbul, air freighted the bike to Karachi in Pakistan - where we sit and write this! We gave up on Hamid (you can have a Visa in 2-5 days ....... but then again ......... it might take a month............ or longer...........it all depends).

We got the bike out of customs late last night and moving onwards Tuesday.

Is it snowing there yet as everybody said it was going to not long before we left (23rd October)????

in delhi

Hi there

IN Delhi at the moment and will be for about three days; doing TV and news interviews around blindness.

Just using an organisations computer to post quick reply. Staying at GK1 district (not far from Lotus Temple) and will post hotel address when we arrive there (3700 rupees was the only available (and cheapest we could find).

Will be travelling on to Agra SUnday for the usual and then to Nepal (shipping to Thailand we think or we may come back to CAlcutta for sea route - haven't decided yet really).

Will get back to you with more details when I have them including GPS coords if you want them. The traffic is hell and gives no quarter (very much like Lahore!) They will take the paint off your panniers!

Ride safe and catch you soon.

Sitting in Erzurum as well

Its 20th November. The Iran consulate is closed for two days. Even then I may not be lucky as I applied through iranianvisa.com and they are about as useful as wooden wheels on a bike.
Anyone passing ?
I hope to go down through Iran ( really) and on to Pakistan and India.
Meanwhile I eat sleep and wait as the bright sunny days turn to snow !

Hi there NZL from Delhi

Know the feeling - we sat in Erzurum for three weeks (after three weeks in Athens) and met up with Chris from Australia who also sat waiting for IranianVisa and, eventually, he also gave up on them.

They should all be taken out and ................................. (fill in the space).

They cost us a fortune in money and time having to rearrange route (Back across Turkey to Istanbul then ship to Karachi). The funny thing is the Iranian Foreign Ministry (after contacting the British Consul in Tehran) personally invited us (when we were already in Pakistan with a single entry/exit Visa!)

Iranian Visa are a Bunch of buggers and I wouldn't trust them as far as I could chuck an BMW.

Anyway, if you get to Pakistan through Iran take big scarf to keep the dust out of your lungs. We sat in Lahore coughing for about 5 days after travelling up through Pakistan but we loved Pakistan! Driving in India is 'interesting' BTW if you haven't done it. Be very careful as some of them drive on the left and some drive on the right - and they never use their wing mirrors. They'll take the paint off the bike as they pass you. Red lights do not seem to mean stop either................ (I might stop, I might not).

Hope things work out better for you re. Iranian Visa. We have our fingers crossed for you as we were pretty gutted not to be able to pass through the country. You heading home with a name like NZL?

Very best wishes

Cathy and Bernard

iranian visa

Hi Dak from Gorakhpur NE India - the road here was a real bitch - actually the word road does not describe it! Sorry for delay but no connections and busy staying alive in Indian traffic chaos.

Anyway - we contacted the British Embassy in Tehran and they did the leg work for us so do not have any contact details.

Chris (from your neck of the wood just across the water and likes a beer) had the same problem with iranian Visa.com and gave up after being in Erzurum for several weeks. In the end he went to key2persıa and solved the problem very quickly. They seem more reliable but you never know with Iranian Visas!

Keep in touch if you can!
Best Wishes

Cathy and Bernard.
