B.A. to Ruta 40 9/13 to Dakar 1/14

I'm now taking a break from the austral winter in Rosario,AR. I'm planning on restarting ~ 20,September 2013. The plan is to ride NW to the north end of Ruta 40(Bolivian border). Then about 7 weeks down R40 to a slightly frosty arrival in Tierra del Fuego in early/mid November.
After that heading north through Chile to the Dakar Rally in the 3rd week of January 2014. After that the Andean countries and back to the USA.

I ride a BMW 650 single, travel light, mostly good hotels, prefer dirt and gravel, some camping, fishing, drinking. I speak pretty good spanish, american and portañol.

If anyone would like to join me give me a holler. It might be fun to have some good company and more importantly it would allow for some more adventurous routes.

Meet at the Dakar?

Pasomonte,

I will be leading a 'Follow the Dakar 2014' group down from Bolivia to meet the Dakar below Salta, Argentina, then chase it back to Salta, up onto the Salares of Bolivia, then west into Chile, saying goodbye to it just south of Iquique. From there we will ride to Cuzco, Peru where I am based out of.

Sounds like we could meet up and ride together. We will be a group of 6 to 8 bikes (Hondas and Kawasakis).

If you need to know ANYTHING about Peru, let me know. Peru is my back yard!

Cheers! Toby

Dakar 2014

Sounds cool Toby. It does look like we could get together up there. I guess you'll be able to follow because of the rest day in Salta. I can't imagine what the Moto race will look like crossing the salares. I was going to go southward through Argentina and north through Chile but I could just switch that I guess.

Depends where you want to end up!

We will come down from Bolivia to Salta on the 9th, then go down towards Tucuman to find the Dakar 2014 and follow it back into Salta, then the rest day in Salta and then chase it back north to Bolivia again. So we will actually overnight 3 nights in Salta 9 to 12. I have 10 beds reserved at a nice hostel, but may not need them all (and there may not be any left at this point!). Keep in touch !

Toby

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
