I am

Hey Marco,

I just arrived in Gilgit yesterday. Sunny and not too warm here, plus absolutely gorgeous landscape.

I am staying in Mandina Guesthouse. Great place, friendly with garden to park the motorbike and very staff. If you want to get here, stay on the road on which you enter Gilgit for a while. Immediately before the market turn right down the dirt alley.

I will stay for a while. Am planning to do a 3-8 day trek from monday (depending on my condition after the first 3 days - motorbike riding made me unfit) and will go up to the chinese border thereafter, go back to Gilgit and down to Peschawar via Chitral afterwards.

See you on the road.

Lars

I just came down from there. Ran into Marco ...

In Islamabad now at the camping. About 10 other overlanders here, lots of fancy trucks and a few bikes. Staying here for a few days I'm sure.

Hi,
anybody left on the Karakoram highway? 1 week ago I crossed the chinise-pakistan border and are in Gilgit now. Untill now I only meet 4 korean guys on 4 hyosungs. I gave them the address of a guy I meet in kasgar and they are in China now!
For the rest I only chase ghosts. From here I will go to Islamabad, Lahore, quatta and then to Iran.
If anybody is interested to drive to China via the kkh, I know a way, no guide needed. For more information you can contact me via roel@cjroel.nl

Greetings from the roof of the world.

Roel,

am on the camp site in Islamabad again, as is Marco and 3 other motorbikers, not to mention several vans.

Take your time - 3 of us are waiting for spare parts anyway.

Regards

Lars

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
