Alternative Ushuaia for December?

After a huge amount of deliberation and being very responsible and looking at my funds, I've decided I can't make it to Ushuaia for Xmas/New Years. I'm traveling too slow etc. But, I would LOVE to celebrate with other like minded souls. I know there's others out there who are in the same boat/bike/whatever. What about an alternative get together further north. Maybe the salt flats in Bolivia??? White Xmas etc...???
Anyone interested?

Since you can't make it to the end of the world, I'd suggest a warm beach somewhere. Sitting around in a bathing suit on Christmas sure seems to me to beat hell out of sitting around in the dark and cold of a salar. (there's almost nothing there to burn, so a fire is out).

Of course, you could always bill it as "the one and only" Christmas gathering in Bolivia.

You've got 3 months !!

You can make it and then go back and do the parts you've missed :D

If it were me, and I wish it was, I would think about the Lake District in Argentina somewhere. Bariloche is a little big, but maybe el Bolson or someplace. Might still be a little too far south for you.

Thanks Andy, Argentina is still too far. Don't forget, some of us work everyday while traveling, so three months may sound like a long time, but it really isn't! I'm also working on a few books while doing magazine writing. So.... hoping people turn out of the woodwork....

BTH, it's actually two months, not three. BUT, will enter Peru today and now I've actually looked at the map again, I can certainly make it to Argentina. Not sure how south but.... at least where it's easier to camp!
And, still open to alternative Ushuaia ideas!

Greetings Lorraine

We are heading down to Argentina but due to several reasons, (mostly me being slack and lazy) we have about zero chance of a Usuhaia for Christmas. Peru is a more realistic target for that time. We will let you know how we are going.

Well that's encouraging. I've just been sidetracked ONCE again in North Peru, near Paita at an animal shelter here. Don't know how long I'll stay. Where are you now???

What did Ted Simon write, The interruptions ARE the journey.... ;-)
best, Lorraine
