Algeria October 2006

Hi
I'm planning to cross Algeria (Tunisia to Niger) via the Hoggar Route, was wondering if anyone else had similar plans for this October. I'm travelling in a 4x4 but would welcome fellow travellers on bikes, or any other vehicle (not looking for foot passengers).

At the very least, I would like to do a north-south traverse seeing the peaks of the Hoggar from Assekrem. If it's possible, I'm also keen to do a couple of side trips to the Tassili N'Ajer, and possible the meteor crater on the In Amenas piste.

I intend to leave Algeria at In-Guezzam for Niger. I would be happy to spend anything from about 10 days to 4 weeks in Algeria.

If anybody has similar plans and would appreciate splitting the costs of the guide, please either post a reply, or email me at:

Hi Dan,
I am planning to do the same route as part of trans-Africa trip around that time. I'll be on a motorcycle.
Would love to discuss this more. Please drop me a line at lois_pryce at yahoo.co.uk

>>>and possible the meteor crater on the In Amenas piste.

I think you may mean the Amguid piste SE of In Salah. Dont know of any crater near In Amenas. We tried to get there from the east in November but were turned back, tho access may ease up by next winter.

A side trip to the Tassili from Tam would be around 1500kms round trip. Better I think to do it on the way down: Tunisia, Djanet, across to Tam (piste - with Askm on the way) and then over to Niger. At least 10 days and a brilliant ride. It would be a shame to just shoot down the TS highway.

If you're a bunch of bikes Agence Tanezrouft can do you a deal I'm sure - and carry your gear on the piste if you want.
