Alaska - Argentina. Summer 2008

Hey all... I originally posted this for 2007 but personal circumstances means that im having to delay this for another year for saving purposes. It may be a blessing in disguise as ill be able to do my full Spanish A-level now before the trip (some disguise though lol)

Well, I want to be leaving anytime after May 2008. Probably flying into Anchorage and heading south at a lesuirly pace taking anything between 6 - 12 months. Nothing is concrete yet so happy to swap and talk ideas through.

Im 26, male, very laid back, friendly, honest and sociable. I have a very long fuse and not really interested in racing and stressing out on the road. Im a qualified motorcycle mechanic and iv been learning Spanish for the last year and should be upto a fairly high level before I go. (God, this sounds like a lonely hearts advert :lol2: )

Im taking a 2003 XT600E with Tesch 45L boxes & GPS. Im not planning on taking a tent and camping gear at this stage but ill prob take a bivvi bag for the odd night under the stars. I plan to airfreight too. Apart from that, im very flexible.

I know its a fair way off at the moment but I know that time really does fly and you can never have too long to plan and save. I should have about 7-8 K for the trip come leaving time.

By all means get in touch !! Ed

My wife and I are planning on riding KLR650s from Colorado to Alaska in summer 2008. After that, I'll probably head for South America, planning on being in Ushuaia at year's end 2008. Too soon to know travel details, but I'll be down there one way or another.

Sounds like a plan

Hi SgtMarty
I'm planning a simular trip in the spring of '08 but like all good plans it's flexable. My only hard timing is that I can't leave before Nov 07(the end of my current army contract) I'm really flexable as to itenarry but I'd like to stop some where in L/A for Spanish imersion lessons for a few weeks/months.
My nav skills are really good(both GPS and map/compass)
I'm good with a wrench, I've travled to lots of "interesting" places and am comfortable in other cultures. I'm equally happy camping as hotel'ing it.
Bluntly, I wanna see nice places, not the shit-holes the goverment has sent me too!!

My ride is an '03 R1150GS with lots of mod's, looks kinda non-BMW'ish but I like it.

Cheers
Mike

I'm also in the preliminary planning stages for a 2008 Alaska -Tierra Del Fuego trip. I would likely do the Alaska section in late June, attend the HU meeting in Creel in October and leave from there.

I'm studying introductory Spanish this winter and hope to take advanced lessons in the fall next year.

Keep me posted.
