7 day motorbike tour taking in the Salar de Uyuni
Hi guys
I was in Bolivia 3 years ago and was blown away with the Salar de Uyuni. I´m now here again and want to do a tour on a enduro motorbike of the south west of Bolivia taking in the Salar. There is a minimum number of 4 people for the tour and I´m trying to find more people who are interested in doing this tour within the next few weeks. Please get in touch if you are interested and we can work something out. Regards Simon |
Simon,
I've been in Sucre for a month and will be leaving soon for Potosi and La Paz. I am interested but need to know more. I recently bought a cheap Chinese Cronos 250 here and just finished a five-day trip with another fellow I met on the HUBB who lives in Sucre, Adam. Hope to hear from you soon, Tom |
Hi Tom
It´s an organised trip from La Paz, so it includes bike rental, hostels and food. So not sure if you can do it on your own bike! I did post the details but it was pulled as I was seen to be advertising the company. Not the case I just want to do the trip.
I was in Sucre as well did a trip with a guy with a KX 250 had a great time. The trip for the salar is 1500 USD a lot I know, I did look into buying a bike in Sucre but went for doing tours. If you are interested in the trip let me know at my email and I can send the details; Also I would be interesed to know how easy it is for you to pass through the police check points? Guess you have the tourist bike permit? Cheers Simon |
Plan B
after recieving your comment I´ve been thinking, got some leads for bike rental in La Paz, I should be there in a day or two and will chase them up. When do you think you will arrive in La Paz?
|
To be honest I don't think $1500 is too much for a tour of 7 days around that area as it's so remote and high risk should the bike break down, I don't know how you could get it out of there.
Regardless, if you're renting bikes instead then make sure they're in good condition :cool4: |
Plan B part two
Tom, are you still there. I´m now in La Paz and been in touch with a rental agency and I can get a Honda 400 for 1000bs per day and they are ok with me taking it down to Uyuni? Are you still up for doing this tour?
Pockethead, you are right one day rental is 1000bs (for my friends over the pond about 150 USD) so for 1500 USD for 7 days with a guide and accommodation, food etc seems a good price. BUT, still have the problem that they have people for this trip in July but not now and there is a 4 person minimum! Would be happy to find others to do this tour, or do it independently with Tom or others with me renting a bike. Let me know Amigos. |
Amigos For Uyuni
hi my girlfriend and I are on a dr650 and gonna be in uyuni probably tomorrow. we are in atocha now. We would like to find some others to do the salt flats and southern parts of bolivia with. not big on tours. we would like to do the trip on our bike and find some others to do it with. let me know if you want to ride together. What about fuel? is there any available? what route are you thinking? we get about 300-350km on a tank. do you plan to camp or hotel? thanks

Hi Dan
My first choice would be with a tour from here (La Paz). For me to sort out a rental bike and get myself down to Uyuni would take a few days. Not sure you and you missus would like to spend that many days in Uyuni, not much there.
When I was there 3 years ago and did a jeep trip, they carried their own fuel, I can´t remember seeing much in the way of places to refuel, would be best to take a jerry can of fuel on the back. No plan on a route if I end up doing it indipendently, but there are some amazing sites around Tupiza and Atocha as well. This is the Uyuni part of the tour I hope to do: Toledo - Salar de Coipasa - Llica (here the motorbike tour begins) Total time: Full day Total Km.: 170 km Llica -Tunupa Volcano - Isla Incahuasi Total time: Full day Total Km.: 120 km Isla Incahuasi - San Juan - Colored Lagoon Total time: Full day Total Km.: 160 km Colored Lagoon - Geysers - Green Lagoon - Uyuni Total time: Full day Total Km.: 250 km Uyuni - Train Cemetery - Colchani Total time: Half day Not sure if this helps you with deciding what route to take. Simon,
Soorry I haven't checked the site in a fews days. When are you looking to go? I could be in La Paz anytime after ten days minimum, but more likely later than that. Of course Uyuni is closer to here... I've had plenty of encounters with the police, both on the raod and in the station, and have found them to be professional and not angling for bribes. Pockethead and I just finished a five-day trip and you can depend on him for good information. Tom |
