6 weeks riding in south of US - starts in Vegas Nov 18.

Hey Guys!

Im on a 3 month stay in America and flying home to Denmark on January 8. 2013 from San Francisco. I've spent the first half of my 90-day stay with my friends and sponsors in Oakland, doing some Endurocross races on the West Coast. The last race is in Vegas on November 17., and from there on, I'd LOVE to travel around where ever possible, where ever the sun shines and where ever good experiences await until my flight home.

As the motorcycle I want to travel on is a borrowed DRZ400 from a friend in Denmark, my initial wish to travel through Mexico and as far south as time would allow me, is not going to come true. It seems to be quite a hassle/impossible to ride a bike into Mexico, if you are not the owner of the bike. Am I wrong??? If yes - please let me know!!!

Since I don't see Mexico happening right now, I guess I will have to settle with whatever else may be interesting with a starting point from Vegas on possibly november 18/19. I am a racer and dirtbikerider at heart, so i'd like to see a lot of the approximately 6 weeks be done without big freeways. The more countryside I can get, the more a genuine experience I believe will come along too. Does not have to be dirty dirt roads... But rather dirt than tarmac.

So if you have any ideas, routes, cool, beautiful, interesting places to show me I'd be very happy to hear from you. EVEN BETTER... If you want to join me on this fairly quick trip around the southern part of the US (maybe including a trip to Baja California, where I seem to be able to get away with riding my friends bike over the border), then I would be even happier to hear from you!!! Does not have to be for the full trip. Even a couple of days would be great!

I thought of doing something like the Transamerican Trail but it seems that its not recommended to be done West-East. Not sure I could make it much further than halfway, but the kind of riding on the TAT definitely caught my interest.

Let me know asap if you are keen on this very spontaneous trip that sets off in roughly 10 days :-)

Thanks and happy travelling to all of you :-)

Sounds like a good plan. I'm not an expert but I believe you can get into Mexico with a notarized letter from the bikes owner. That would be the same if you had a loan on the bike and the bank had to write the letter of permission. Also if you go in through Sonora and stay in Sonora they won't give it a look and you won't need a temporary import permit. Buena Suerte!
