3 Cups Trip South America Oct 08-March 09

Leaving Seattle early October to ride to TDF. From there to Punta Arenas and fly (probably without bike) to Falklands, for a week (maybe?), then back, pick up bike and ride as far up the Atlantic Coast as possible. Leave bike, fly to England, renew US Visa, fly back. Pick up bike again and ride back to Seattle.

The main aim is to meet and converse with people, therefore I am offering to make a cup of tea for anyone who stops me, plus at places where I stop. Actually 3 cups, the first for politeness, the second for exchanging thoughts and gaining understanding, the third for friendship.

These will be small cups as I don't want to have to carry a portaloo...I'm sure Touratech make an ali one! Plus part of the challenge is about getting a bone china tea set around the whole trip without damaging it.

I'll be filming as much of the trip as possible and blogging like crazy.

There are a couple of folk who've expressed interest in coming along, but I expect there will be some drop out, some divergence of paths and some different itineraries. So anyone who fancies a slightly disjointed but interactive ride (especially spanish speakers, I'm having lessons but it's going to be a 3 month cram at best) then please let me know.

Riding a GS 1150Adv, if that makes any difference.

Hello,

If you need additional information from this part of the world I can give you a hand.
I live in Santiago and ride with the company of my son and others folks in KTM's 640. We also have been in Bolivia and Argentina
Due to work I'll be in Seattle area next June and we can share a tea cup there.

Not a Tea Drinker

Even though I'm a Brit I don't drink tea but my wife likes a nice cuppa so if you plan on coming to Mex City, and why wouldn't you, we can put you up and show you around. Washing up is also part of the deal too. I normally meet people just outside the city and guide them in. My email i garry dymond @ prodigy.net.mx (just put it altogether)

Similar plans

Hi - I'm planning to be headding that way about the same time but riding a smaller bike - KLR 650. I'll be in Panama about Oct 8 and then shipping the bike to Quito arround the 12th. I speak some Spanish and am taking classes to brush up. As of now, I'll also be taking immersion Spanish classes in EC for about two weeks - I know Guatamala is the place for that, but the timing just doesn't fit. That might put us in about the same place at the same time and I'd really like to find one or two other rides to support each other allong the Altaplano and through the Atacama.

Drop me an email if you're interested seeing if our timing fits-

Well there seems to be quite a possibility that that might happen. Let me know when you plan to be in Seattle area, and even if I'm still getting ready to set off, I'll be happy to provide a bed and some garage space...and tea of course.

There's possibly a GS 650 coming along too, so I don't see the bike sizes being an issue.
With your 2 week stop over, we may well be at similar points at a similar time.

I'll definitely keep in touch.

At this rate, it might be easier with all the folk travelling, if we dump the bikes and buy a bus. I could then park up at the side road, drop down the side and offer tea and scones!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
