Hi guys,

Tomorrow I'm leaving on my RTW trip, on an F650GS. Route is as follows:

Australia - China (east) - India - Pakistan - China (west) -
Kyrghyzstan - Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran -
Azerbaijan - Armenia - Turkey - maybe Syria - Greece - All over the EU
- UK

It will take 12 months or so. I'm spending approximately a month in
each country expect Kyrghzstan to Turkmenistan which will be about 2
weeks each.

I've learned a huge amount in planning and preparing the bike over
the last ~3 years so if you've got any questions, feel free to ask.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say thanks to the HUBB
community which has been instrumental in my planning.

We are planning to ride the otherway around on a transalp and africa twin, slightly different route from amsterdam to oz leaving in september, but you never know, maybe we meet somewhere on the road....

Was thinking of doing similar route in a few months, still may. alternative is up africa first to Europe. Anyways, how did you manage to get the bike into China? thought it was meant to be near impossible?! You ship there straight from Oz?
Keep us updated, who knows, might meet up on the way!

try spend longer ın the east... turkey ıs WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! half a tank for my f650 costs the same as a days accom, meals, taxıs, entrance fees, full tank of petrol & sensatıonal ıce-cream ın ıran...

ı thınk europe (tomorrow) gets more expensıve agaın...!

I have been in China and Sri Lanka since posting last. Internet in China is hard. Although proxy sites like pimpmyip.org allow login, I had trouble with wordpress and horizons due to I think page scripting etc. breaking in the proxy process.

It was too hard for me to get a bike into the east of China, for my budget. There seem to be countrywide tours available but they cost $1000s per week. I am booked for a seven day tour in the west, Khunjerab to Torugart, at the cost of several hundred USD per day. I think it is possible to sneak in but risks are not worth it for me personally. The best way to have a bike in east China is to buy one there. As far as I can tell you will have to do it with no registration, no license and no insurance, unless someone is willing to buy it for you and you have residency.

I am currently trying to get the bike from Sydney to Mumbai. It is quite difficult and I'm now weeks behind schedule because most customs/forwarding agents seem to have little idea about personal carnet imports, and / or the Indian bureaucracy is uncertain itself. I've been told it has got worse due to terrorism concerns. I am trying my third agent at the moment.
Can anyone recommend a customs / forwarding agent in Mumbai?

I must recommend Amanda at Travcour (Travcour- TRAVCOUR (UK) Ltd) and David at Stantours for organising my visas and LOIs for central Asia. They have always got over the obstacles presented (e.g. Iran requiring personal attendance in London to get a visa) with the result that i'm legal for almost all the countries on my route! Now all i've gotta do is get there ...

If you can fit tajikistan in i would highly recommend it. It was one of the highlights of the stans for me.
