Working while travelling?..
Hey,

just wondering if anyone had similar experiences.

I started my motorcycle journey a few months ago in SA, and at first I just wanted to see Peru. Got hooked and couldn´t stop, so ended up in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, and realized I was completely out of money. I literally had less than a 100 Argentine pesos left

So I found a job in TDF, saved up for bike repairs, new tyres etc, and once I´ve saved enough I´ll be off to Ecuador or maybe even Colombia and Venezuela. I´m hoping I can find work on the way if (ok, let´s face it, its not an if, its a when ) I run out again.

I know this is hardly a brilliant plan, but it worked so far and I´m just not ready to quit my SA travels on a bike!!

Anyone doing the same?..

I haven't done it but I've talked to several people who have. They volunteer a lot for free food and lodging, do a bit of work for money to get to the next place, couchsurfing or camping. Some traveled years this way. Others work with tour companies or cruise ships for awhile (paid to travel). I'm trying to setup a way to work over the internet while I travel as another option.... just keep going as long as there is interest!

We work everytime that somebody offers us a job!

Up to now we have beeing working in a hotel in turkey, as a carpenter (Thomas) and as a promoter (Agata) in india, as managers of a guest house in sri lanka...
Sometimes we work for money or sometimes only for food and accomodation (not spending is almost like earning....)

We also work on internet as freelancers!

Thought about it...

However, after spending 2-3 years working hard and saving for a big trip, the last thing I want to do is work

I'm looking for someone to be here from mid April till September.
Chores include picking up and dropping off riders and introducing them to their bikes.
I can supply free accommodation, food and some cash.

Thats an interesting point!

I currently would have a chance to earn a good amount of money working remotely some days a month.

But for doing that i need a good internet connection.. That is often not given if you want to travel remotely. For shure i could use a "base" and spent the free time with trips starting from there...

At the end i will try now to fill up my budget here - and be able to save some bucks.

This way I hope I just can enjoy my next trip - without have to think about work or money..

You wouldn't be the first.....

I'm mates with a guy who played the horses and did pretty well out of it. Kept him going for months.

I also met a guy in India who played the stock market. He learnt it from websites and youtube. He also made some good money.

Very risky though isn't it.... And who want's to sit in an internet cafe or stuck in a corner at a hostel working when all the world is having fun around you.

It's the only plan you need! Working to keep yourself travelling can often be much easier than you think. And particulary so in South America. I known quite a few peopel who have done it, and I myself travelled for three months i central America, then fond work in a cool hostel / hotel I was staying in, to fund my trip up to Mexico. Some of the best months of my life.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
