Why is is so much more expensive in the UK??!

Has anyone compared Wunderlich seat prices in the UK vs. Germany? Well I have and I nearly fell off my chair!
In the UK website, let's take the example of the BMW650GS seat. It sells for the fair price of 372 quids (http://www.wunderlich.co.uk/shop/index.html)
Then in Wunderlich.de. Prices for similar seats: EUR409 (without exchange of seat) or EUR209 if you give them your old seat). In another words if they take back your old seat it will cost you : 142 pounds. That's 230 pounds less than in the UK. IF you keep your old seat it would be 280 pounds (FX rate from Bloomberg at GBP/EUR 0.68). And no I do not speak german, I used Balbelfish to understand what was going on! Once again rip off prices in the UK???!

No extra tax is paid between EU countries, and all prices SHOULD be about the same from country to country - that was the whole idea of the EU, but we always get ripped off in the UK.

Hi,

perhaps the extra cost is due to transportation and conversion costs from the € to £, plus some margin added by the seller.

hmm... surely by now someone must be importing stuff from the continent and selling it in the UK with a more reasonable margin?
Wouldn't make millions but would work nicely, web based......
Hey that get me thinking......

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
