Stolen KLR650

Stolen last night in East London last night: Kawasaki KLR650 C (European model). It's green and white (purple tank, shroud, and side panel decals removed), with a black givi back box, a tinted Givi aftermarket screen, black front mudguard, scottoiler, side pannier racks, and engine guard. It answers to the name of "Mutt". If anyone sees it, please let me know of it's whereabouts, as it urgently needs medication or something.

I may hold a jumble sale of spares and stuff for this bike, if I don't recover it, and go for something suitably different. We'll see..

Joking aside, any sightings are appreciated. I'm just a bit pissed off about losing it.

On the plus side, someone just saved me an MOT, and gave me an opportunity to go for something new..

Found it (by checkinng in all the local blocks of flats!). They made complete crap of it by dropping it a few times, pulling the ignition out, pulling wires loose, and seemingly letting the engine oil out (haven't had a chance to look more closely yet). I haven't dared to think how much it's going to cost to repair it either.

How will the insurance company handle it now? Do they still treat it as a theft, since it's been recovered? I reckon it's a write-off, as the damage is fairly extensive, and probably approaching the value of the vehicle, but, having worked for finance companies, I know what bloodsucking leeches they can be.. I'm just waiting to hear what excuse they give me for not paying up. It's Norwich Union. Does anyone have any experience of a theft claim with them?

I'd check and see what will happen to your insurance premium if you are making a claim. Also, if you ride a stolen & recovered bike, I'm fairly sure you need to then get a new numberplate with a 'Q' in it or something. Could be wrong but it's worth asking.

I suggest that you "loose it again"; then you can have the insurance value (which is not necessarily what it is worth to you anyway) with no complications & less hassle overall.

Alternatively, go ahead with the insurance claim for the recovered bike, get it written off by the insurance company valuer, get paid out by the ins company and then buy it back from the insurer (once they pay you off, they will sell it on to the trade - quite a few on ebay at any one time).

Insurance companies need to see a "crime number" from the police before they will pay up on a theft, if the Police didn't give you one, ( they should have) or you didn't report it stolen ( no comment) then you could be in the deep Doodoo.

If you are fully comp insured they are more lenient....... I crashed a bike while 2.5 times the drink driving limit, wrote bike off, breath-tested (BIG FAIL)
rang my insurance company told them I was Drunk etc when I crashed, they sent forms, paid up £1650 for a Tenere XTZ750 that cost me £980 on ebay I was fined £320 did a Drink Driving Awareness Course £140 and only got a 9 month ban and after the course my Insurance even with a DD cost me LESS than before by 25%....so with the extra they paid me on the Bike I paid the Fines/etc and was still quids in.
AND I learned a valuable lesson.

I'm Tee-total now, as I have discovered living here in Spain booze is too cheap and I have a certain fondness for it that most would call "a problem"
I don't have a problem.....I KNOW I'm an Alcoholic!

Thats why I'm a NON DRINKER NOW! ( guess who is always in demand as a "nominated" driver?)
