For a story on two Belgians who bought Enfields in India in August 2000, and drove them back to Belgium, see the following. Lots of practical tips and contact details.
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...eldindia.shtml

Another earlier story from Dave and Helen, also full of helpful hints, http://website.lineone.net/~daveandhelen/

And very recently departed is Peter Chowla.

From the Horizons Unlimited Motorcycle Travellers E-zine - July, 2001 edition:

Peter Chowla, India, India to Switzerland, 1966 Royal Enfield Bullet 350cc
"14 June 2001. I am about to leave on my adventures. One more week to make all the necessary arrangements. I plan to take my 1966 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 cc from New Delhi, into Pakistan, up over the Karakoram Highway, into China, through Kashgar and up to Kazakhstan (Alma Ata) before making my way to the trans-Siberian Highway at Omsk and descending to Moscow, Kiev, Yalta, and then into Eastern Europe where I will eventually end up in Prague and Geneva. Lets hope it all goes well as this is sort of fly by the seat of my pants (No Carnet, No Intl Driver's License, No Vehicle permit for China, etc etc). Thanks and happy adventures, Peter"

You can contact peter at peter @ chowla.com. Tell him you saw his story in the Horizons e-zine.

Good luck, and remember you're not alone out there!

dear hanif,

i am very jealous, have just come back from this route myself, you must go up to north pakistan and the karakorum highway, it is incredible, the highlight of the trip... we took a ferry from ignoumenitisia to venice, to shorten the expense, and relative boredom of europe, watch out as italy road tolls are very expensive !!! have a good one and take it shanti>

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
