Poor Florian...such a sad ending of his great and realy written funny story...

Sorry to hear about Flo's nasty Christmas surprise. Can't help with contacts but a post in the relevant sections of Adventure Rider Motorcycle Forum and ThumperTalk are likely to lead to more locals reading the post. I presume by La Paz, Mexico you mean Baja California?

Best Wishes
Chris

Mika
Suggestions
- has the crime been reported to the local police? offer an 'incentive'?
- perhaps he could post details/photo/engine number etc here
- maybe he could print a local flyer offering a reward and post on lamp posts/petrol stations?
- has he contacted the local HUBB communities on here
- has he contacted the local radio station? to talk about his trip / ask for help finding his moto & offering reward
- local TV ? who knows - if he does not ask he won't get!

just ideas
sorry to hear of loss
good luck

Florians bike ....

Hola,

thank you guys for the replies and the ideas, I just told Flo to come here and to read/answer your posts.

Some friends of mine, Patrick and Belinda Peck (check out their blog here on HU), just arrive in La Paz (yes, Chris its the one on Baja California) and they are going to meet Flo today.

Florian used a Carnet for his trip (but I dont know yet if he got it stamped in Mexico), so at the moment we try also to get information from the ADAC (the automobile club that issued the carnet).

He will tell you more later, but I know that he went all around town to post flyers ....

Saludos
Mika

Stolen Honda...

Hello there,

i finally have my papers from the police that confirm the theft. My biggest problem in the moment IF i should go to the customs office.I have a "Carnet de passage" for my motorcycle. But i dont use it for mexico, because its not needed.
The normal way for importing a motorcycle to Mexico is to deposit 400 Us-dollars and get them back when you leave the country. So,the motorcycle is official not in Mexico.
I am afraid that before i can sign-out my carnet i have to pay that ammount.
What happens when i return my carnet without the stamps on the last page?
Someone said my automobile-club will keep the deposit until the carnet is invalid, just in case some taxes occur.
The carnet has only import and export-stamps from Japan, export stamp says"On Ship to the US"

greetings,Flo

Carnet?

My Legal tender in thecarnet says:

"...When returning to Europe you have to present your vehicle to a German customs office or
a customs office in the European Union of your choice and stamp the last page of the Car-
net (sheet 26 – CERTIFICATE OF LOCATION) and have it confirmed and dated by the
customs officer's signature. A confirmation by other authorities (police, mayor, court officer
and similar), as specified in the Carnet text, will not be accepted.
COUNTERFOIL - SOUCHE sheet 1 - 25 No confirmation is required, if the Carnet de Passages is unused and complete...."

I guess that means the MEXICAN customs cant help me in any way.Is the paperwork i got from the police suficient to proof the bike as stolen or do i need special kind of paper?

chris 30 Dec 2011 18:15

My experience of carnets is from 2000: While my GB reigistered bike was in a container from South Africa to the USA I discharged the carnet in England. As long as the last entry stamp has a matching exit stamp, then there is no problem. The bike never returned to England.

In 2009 I crossed the border by USA registered m/c from Baja California to the USA at Tijuana. I required no Mexico exit documentation from anyone (neither Mex customs, nor Mex immigration). Entering the USA on a British passport was hassle-free. As the bike was on a USA plate there was no customs procedure necessary.

Make sure you post on advrider and thumpertalk for help to find your bike. When I was researching my trip Baja trip, I got lots of good feedback from Baja (US) visitors and (Mex) citizens from these 2 websites.

Hang in there and good luck,
Chris

Get the police report in full and stamped and signed by as many police etc as possible. Get CUSTOMS people to sign it especially. That should be sufficient.

Also as Bertrand says above contact the HU communities to get in touch with the locals and see if they can find anything out. The HU Communities have retrieved bikes before!

good luck!

Moin,

Hi,

If just been talking about what hapened with other people and there suggestion for florian was to go to the german embassy in Mexico and make them stamp the last page of the carned scince Mexico is a country where you dont need a carned.

Otherwise its good that florian did not use the carned to enter the country and also did not pay the 400 Dollars so they are not lost too.

If he has all the neccesary exit stamps from the countrys he used the carned in he will have to wayt untill the carned has expired one year and then another year. If then no country has claimed fot the import tax he should get his deposit back.

My last suggestion was to be happy he doesn has to pay to cross the darian gap with the bike. The money he saves that way he should spend to get a smal 125ccm bike in chile to continue his trip. His webpage is realy nice to reed and needs a happy end ;)

Greetings from chile, Tobi
