tools and spare parts

Any tips on what tools and spare parts I should take for a long haul bike trip?

(bearing in mind I'm a novice still and would have difficulty with anything more than basic maintenance and repairs)

So far I'm thinking: spare spark plugs, bulbs, puncture repair stuff... any advances on this?

thanks!

Where you are from would also be helpful, if in the EU and travelling in the EU your breakdown cover card if you have it and a mobile phone would probably suffice.

Once you told us more we´ll be more able to help. But one thing is for sure - for a long haul trip you do not want to rely on a car club helping you Saturday night with a breakdown high up in the Karpatian Mountains... Get yourself educated about your bike, learn to change tires, replace spokes (if you have spoke wheels), how to set your chain (if you have a chain), know where all the fuseboxes are, know your fuel filter´s position and cleaning steps etc.
And then there is the DVD collection offered at the Sukh here, which may be a perfect start for you.
Cheers
Chris
