tips for selling a car in Mali or Bukina Faso

Hello everyone,

i plan a trip to Mali or Bukina Faso in july, willing to sell a car there (probably a mercedes 220).

I've never done this bevore, in fact i've never been in Africa before. as i read in the forums, many people are experienced in selling cars in africa.

Could anyone give me a overview about things i should mind, problems i will get confronted with, dangers, and some general advices?

is it save to carry a lot of money in this countries?

Thanks,
Stephan

one hot spot to sell cars in Bamako is the "Lebanese Mission"...the owner there will find the buyers for you and help ensure the transaction is secure.

The place is a dump...but this is what it looks like on the inside...

Camp and don't stay in the dorm rooms...its a mosquito hostel.

I had plans to do this but struggled to find if it was safe or not to do this trip. Is it safe now?

I had planned to drive a diesel W124 into Burkina Faso, sell it and fly home. I heard right hand drive cars are worth more in Burkina Faso than Mali.

When do you intend to go?

My other plan when I found out the dangers of this drive was just to see how far East I could get in my W124 before it broke or I ran out of time.

yes, it should be safe right now.

i heared that the streets are in good conditions, except a little part, where you have to cross a beach at low tide and maybe go over some dunes.
do you think it's save to carry around a lot of cash money?

From Europe to Burkina/Mali is a 'doddle' now!

No crossing beaches at low tides, long straight tarmac roads, welcoming, friendly people & yes, I carry cash on me (although hidden well)

However if it's your first time I would go with someone else .. as for selling a RHD in Mali etc, never heard of that, LHD is the way to go, seen 1 RHD in my whole time in Francophone W.Africa!

Kira (planning to drive to Abidjan sometime this year)

Yeah after a little more research I found out that RHD is pretty much unsaleable in out there, so I abandoned my plans for my old Merc.

Going to drive it to Mongolia and hopefully back if I can get there quick enough if not I'll have to fly home!
