That's real Adventure
Todays leaves from London the Mongol Rally, I never read any thread about this rally in HU.
I think they deserve respect, and attention, those guy intend to reach Mongolia with car that one would not even get for commuting, < 1000cc and bike max 125 cc I think it's a good principle it is Adventure no plan, no schedule no equipment overload just self reliance , coping with uncertainty and it's for charity, no competition... Well it' s still fairly new only 6 years old so there is not yet any commercial bias through promoting car Brand and merchandising like most of "adventure" nowadays So if one want to check the web site and maybe support the team for charity Cheers Gwel |

There's a couple of young lads near me who're going in a Citroen AX. Having had a couple of adventures in my (now sadly desceased) one I reckon it's not such a bad choice. It's more the age of the car that will provide the challenge than the engine size. Mine was really reliable (considering), had reasonable ground clearance and incredible fuel economy.
It's the old thing of using a hammer/massively overloaded GS/landrover with sand ladders and snorkel to crack a nut. We seem to believe these things aren't possible in more humble conveyances. Good on 'em, not only raising money for charity, having a massive adventure but also reminding the overlanding community of just what's possible! ![]() Matt

van
I'm in Colombia heading south in a 1978 Chevy van once used by the police as a surveillance vehicle. Has a great 350 engine, though it eats gas considerably. Cost me $750. Cost me double that to get over Darien. I've had some work done, but not a lot. I expect it to make it all the way to the tip...fingers crossed. Not for charity, but I'm a photographer/writer and I'm working as I travel. So I go slow....
