Storing the bike overseas?

I was just wondering about the possibilities and legal hoop-la that surrounds storing a bike long term overseas? If I were to use my annual holidays to start a ride in say, Africa, is it possible to store the bike at a secure compound and leave the country/continent to return 10 months(or less) later and pick up where I left off? How does this affect the carnet?

Same question for me but I would like to leave the bike in Central America or maybe Colombia for 6 - 8 months.

The legalities would be customs related .. talk to the respective governments? Think you'll run into problems afgter 12 months in one country .. carnets are for 'temporary' importation..

Storage .. talk to the HU communities .. think someone would have some space .. especially if you bring in some duty free stuff on return... and being stored with a bike rider, the bike will get looked after...
