Snowboarding in motorcycle pants
 

Slightly random but practical one.

Off snowboarding tomorrow and rather than buying a new shiny and expensive pair of trousers wondered if my Gortex Hein Gericke motorbike pants would do the job instead.

Anybody have any views/experience?

Have to go shopping after work tonight so fast responses appreciated!

I don't see why not. If you feel OK in them (they don't restrict you) just do it, (you can remove the protectors or not).

They work fine I have done it many times.

My riding pants (and jackets) are much heavier and stiffer than my skiing clothing. Skiers and snowboarders seldom find themselves traveling through rain at, say, 70 mph, and they don't need to protect against abrasion from road surfaces during crashes.

Quality ski gear is also designed for ease of movement, and for operation (zippers, adjustments, pockets, vents) with cold, numb fingers. Riding pants are constructed for static function in a seated position--nothing more. For example, some riding pants have a relatively tight cuff--keeps it in place while you sit there all day on your bike, prevents it from flapping and from admitting wind-driven rain and spray, but not so easy to overlap over bulky ski or snowboard boots.

Does this make any difference to you? Maybe not enough to justify the price of purchasing separate clothing for each. I find them substantially different in use, and I use my riding gear for riding, my active sports gear for active sports--hiking, climbing, skiing, etc. YMMV.

probably too late by now, but you're fine snowboarding in riding pants. Better yet, riding jacket is also perfect for snowboarding...

I ski in my Rukka motorcycle pants.
They are warm and water resistant.
But most importantly, I am too cheap to buy ski pants that I would only wear 5-6 days a year!

Aldi do a ski range that should appeal to those with tight budgets (or just tight, imho). Ski jacket £19.99, Salopettes £16.99 and Snowboarding Trousers £19.99. The jacket and salopettes have proved themselves at a bobsleigh and skeleton weekend. I'm thinking the salopettes would be OK on a bike in wet but warm conditions and they also fold down real small.
