Green Card Insurance

Having recently renewed my fully comprehensive bike insurance to BMW's own (much cheaper for my R1150GS than anything else I could find) I have now hit a problem....

We were planning a short trip around Eastern Europe, nothing much, and only lasting a few weeks, to take up the rest of June. Principal reason for trip was so that my girlfriend can decide whether she wants to do a more serious trip on back of bike or not.

Anyway, BMW Insurance inform me that they will only provide Third Party Only (i.e. no theft) cover in:
* Poland
* Slovinia
* Croatia

and, far more annoyingly still, they refuse to cover the following countries at all:
* Yugoslavia
* Albania
* Turkey
* Bulgaria
* Romania
* Bosnia Herzegovina
* Macedonia

....which effectively excludes all the best parts of our intended route :-(

So, can anybody suggest where I can obtain the necessary Green Card insurance, preferably including at least theft cover too, for the above countries ... ideally just for a couple of weeks?

Thanks,

Andy

Andy:

Motorcycle Express will provide full coverage insurance for all the countries between Ireland and Israel, including those two, excepting only Yugoslavia (Serbia) and Iraq. But, it is not cheap. I have used this company two years in a row now, the service is excellent. More info is at this post: Motorcycle Insurance: For a Canadian bike in Europe.

Michael,

Thanks for the tip. I have now taken a look at Motorcycle Express and they only cover US and Canadian citizens ... which I am not.

I have also taken a look at the thread you started in January and got a few useful pointers from that which I shall pursue.

If I do discover anything useful I'll post it up here.

Andy

Hi, insurance is available at the border for third party only, take a good strong lock and fit an alarm, theft is only really a problem if you leave the bike in a dodgy place over night. I have travelled Eastern Europe a few times and only had sun glass nicked when I left them on my tank bag. Silly me.

Italy green card insurance

Hi folks,

where can I buy green card insurance in Italy. My bike is currently registered in Australia. I bought green card insurance at the Turkey / Greece border but that has now expired.

Regards,
Mark.

Mark:

I purchased my EU Green Card Insurance from mototouring.com, who are located in a suburb of Milan.

I was very pleased with the service from this company - fast, efficient, and friendly.

There is a whole discussion about them here: Here is where you get the cheap european green card insurance
